Good afternoon everyone, thank you for joining me today for our Pages webinar. We're going to be covering a little bit on how to manage your pages on your admin side and create new pages as well. I'll be using our Edlio College Prep site you see here on your screen today. I'm going to go ahead and jump into the admin site. When you're on the admin site, on the landing page, there are two ways to get to your pages. One is obviously the direct link here that says pages and the other one would be in your menu, go down to page management, and pages. Both those options lead you to the exact same location. If you are a website admin for your school you will see the landing page for pages as you see here. If you are not a website administrator you will not see the options for personal and category pages, you will only see your own personal pages. So depending on what your role is at your school, it might be a little bit different. I'm going to go ahead and cover the admin side, but building the pages, adding new pages, is pretty much the same way whether you're an admin or not. So If you're an admin, you do have the category pages which are kind of like the main pages of your school site, and you also have your personal pages which are in your own personal section. So it's like your own little personal mini site, that's what personal pages means. You do have up to six categories, their names might be a little different depending on your school. So each one is, all these are categories. Once you click on a category you will see the sections. The sections are, if you want to think about it they're kind of like folders that hold pages, so it'll tell you how many pages are in each section. For example the business one has 10, so I go ahead and click on business, I will see all 10 pages here. If I click on the public link, it's asking me to sign in, let's try another one here, there we go, so now we're looking at the math pages, you'll see that all my pages have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, if you look at the side menu here you'll see that they also have 5. So this side menu is built from all the page titles of a given section. If I go into here, click add new page, blank page, going to give it a title, and save. go back to the math section, you'll see that now I have 6 pages. If I refresh my screen here there we go, you'll see that now I have a webinar test page. So there is no limit to how many pages you can have in a section, just the number of pages you have, the longer this side manual will be. And people can click on these and go to the different pages that are linked here. You can also move the location of the page just by dragging and dropping these little dots on the side, I'm going to go ahead and make this the first one, let me go ahead and refresh, you'll see that my webinar test page is now my top page. This little three dots over here give you a few more options, you have the edit, which is the same as clicking on the on the title, will take you to a place where you can edit the page, moving it is a little bit different than moving it up and down, this is actually moving one page from one section to another section. You can move individual pages between sections. Unfortunately you cannot move an entire section into another section, so it is individual pages only. The other is view on public site, so if you want to see this particular page, you can see it on the public site. View page history, this will give you a brief history of how many edits have been on the page, you can view it, you can sometimes restart to the previous version, so this is helpful if you want to see what the changes that have happened along the way. And you also have an unpublish option, this will hide the page from your live site, it will not delete it, it will only hide it. So this is helpful if you have a page that you're only during a certain time of the year or if it's going to be shown for a particular reason, you don't need to necessarily delete the page, you can go ahead and unpublish a page, and this is noted by the little circle with a slash going through it. And if you want to go ahead and publish it again, just go ahead and click publish and your page will return. And the last one of course is delete, this will delete the page from the section. So I'm going to go ahead and click here on the page, this is the editing layout. You can see here you also have the unpublish and published options here as well, you also have the side panel options so if you want to move that little side menu to the left hand side, go ahead and click save, refresh, and it'll go on to the left hand side. You can also have full width but there is no side menu, just keep in mind that if there is a page is set to full width and there is no side menu, your visitors won't have a way to get to any other pages that are in the section. Under the section menu you also have the options to show and hide it. This one, if you hide the side menu, it will not display a side menu but it also it will keep the space but it will not show the actual side menu. So it's a little different from full width, full width will extend a text from edge to edge, just hiding the side menu will only hide the actual menu but the space will remain so the page will want to go from from this edge to about three-quarters of the way. For pages, you do have a few content options, we have a text, a gallery with your photos, and files which are PDFs or any other files you can upload into our system. So I'm going to go ahead and click content, this is where I can go go ahead and type any content I want on here, but you also have your editing options as well. So if I go ahead and type anything I'd like here, go ahead and click save, you'll see that here's my text that I entered on my other page. I can go ahead and move the alignment, change the text color, there's a font size I can play with as well, I can add an inline image, tables as well, make it bold and italics, just always make sure you click save to make sure your changes reflect on the live site. The other option we have here is a gallery. These are to upload images so for example I can go ahead and upload one image and the second image here. There is no limit to how many images you can upload on the gallery. You'll see that it says missing alt text, if your school has activated the ADA option we have for our websites, you will need to enter alt text. It's just a very brief description of the picture, for example this is a teacher, then we have students. So this is just useful for ADA if anybody that has a hearing impairment visits your site, they will hear a brief description of what the image is from their screen reader. So go ahead and click save, and since I have two images it will shuffle through the images. If you upload two, three, four, or five, it will shuffle through all of them and then go ahead and circle back to the beginning. There is an option to have the images a stacked, so if you hit change, go to stacked, make sure you save, and I refresh, the images will be stacked. Keep in mind if you have a lot of images in that gallery it can get pretty long if you have, you know, 10, 20 images in that gallery, it will be, your page will require a lot of scrolling to go through all the pictures. Go ahead and change this back to rotating, and the last piece we have here is a, the files. Let me try to find a file here I can upload here. Give me one second. So if you go ahead and upload this, you can go ahead and also rename it if you want, so whatever it is. Go ahead and click save, let me refresh it, you'll see the PDF file is linked here, once they click on it, it will open the PDF file on a new page. If you want to have the file shown on the actual page, you have that option as well. So if you go ahead and click here you'll see it says display options. You have three sizes, usually the one to fill up the entire space is the larger one, if I click here, you'll see that there is the file itself. Go ahead and click save, let me refresh here, and you'll see the PDF file is on the page. You can also move these content boxes around as well, so if I want my images on top followed by my text, just go ahead and drag and drop, refresh, images on top, text, and PDF. So those are the three options you have for content. You can have multiple of the same content boxes, you can have multiple text, multiple galleries, PDFs as well. On a page there is no set layout that you need to follow, it is pretty much however it works for you or the content that you are trying to display. You'll also have the same options under the side menu, so if you wanted a content box here, go ahead and click save, refresh, you'll see there's side menu text as well. So you can have text, images, PDFs, keep in mind the PDFs on the side menu or pretty much only the link to the PDF you cannot display the PDF itself on the side menu part. But you can have a mixture of content on the left hand side and content underneath the side menu. A lot of schools use images, links to other pages, PDFs, it just pretty much is up to you how you want to do it. So the other option we have here is images, go ahead and grab this one here, click save, my highlighted text, my alt text, save, and refresh, and you'll see the placeholder here. The image I uploaded is little small, if it's a bigger size it wil show the full width. I do have a question that says "Are video files supported for upload?" Yes they are, depending on the size it can take some time to upload. We actually recommend using the video feature. You can have a video feature on each section. For example if I go to math here, and we click new page, one of the options is a video page. So each section can have its own video page, this one has the ability to upload videos and to actually upload, sorry embed, YouTube videos or Vimeo videos as well. So while you can upload them on the pages, we definitely recommend to use a video feature because the video feature also automatically adds closed captioning to your videos. So that's also important for an ADA accessibility, but yes you can upload videos to the page. Another question we have is "How you can have the text aligning with the copy on the page?" You can use inline images. Unfortunately inline images are not mobile responsive, so if you have a more responsive site, it will, the images will not resize the same way as they do with the the gallery option. So if I were to go, let me see here, insert edit image, you can have text that goes around it by using the alignment, just give keep in mind, like I said this one will not resize so if you put a pretty big image and you have a more responsive site, the image will not get smaller. So it's, if you're using a small size for example, just like putting the picture of a person followed by maybe like a bio of someone, should be okay, especially more responsive, but if you're trying to keep the larger size image on here using the inline image option, this one will not resize. So it kind of depends on what you're trying to build the page with or how you trying to lay it out. But that is the way you can put images with text by using the inline, insert edit image option. And then of course the last one here would be again the files on the side, if you go ahead and upload a file, click save, refresh here, you'll see the file on the right hand side. So you can play with it, you can rearrange of course as well, one thing I always tell schools that I train are if you go ahead and try it, if it doesn't look right you can always just go ahead and delete it and try again. Like I said there is no set layout as to how your pictures are supposed to look. Again, it really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. I think I've gone ahead and covered pretty much everything on building pages here. Let me go ahead and show you how to add a new section. So if you need, have a need for a new section, all you have to do is pick a category, let's say I'm going to pick miscellaneous here, and I'm going to go ahead and click new section, and I'm going to go ahead and name it webinars. Go ahead and add and edit the section. Again, there's also no limit to how many sections you can have, there's an infinite amount. We do recommend the sections kind of house pages that are somewhat related to each other, kind of helps it, keeps it a little bit more organized on the backend. Of course you can also link from one section to another section. So if you have the, for example if I came in the, let's go to the about, and I click new page, you can link to another page. So if you need to have a link and a certain section that sends the visitor to another section, all you need to do is just make sure that you have the URL for the other section to a page in the other section. And just go ahead and place it in here. If you want to find out what the URL is you would click on the page and it would be this one right here, the public link. That's the one you need to copy and insert on the new page here. Put a title, put a link to, paste it, and then you have the option of open as a new tab, open in same window, so this one is, it will open actually a new tab on the person's, visitor's browser. And open the same window will actually open in the same exact tab. If it's a page that is within your site, we recommend same window, so people don't think they've left your site. If it is entirely separate site that is not yours then we definitely recommend open as a new tab so visitors know that they have left your site and gone to a third party site. So that's the difference between those two. Okay ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for joining me today, I don't want to take up too much of your time, I know you guys are very busy.
