Calling all teachers! Your teacher page gives parents a window into the classroom. We'll show you how to create engaging pages parents will love.

Good afternoon teachers, we're really excited to have you with us today. For our teacher pages webinar and some of you actually may not be teachers you might be admins who are preparing your teachers for the end of the school year transition and you know getting your staff ready for the new school year so we're really excited to get you started during this process. So as many of you know, you may have multiple ways to set up  or have your users access your staff on the front end of your site. If you have your academic departments added into any one of your drop down menus this is one way to access your staff, or  if your staff directory is added to your site. So for those of you following along with me today if you would like to  go to your staff directory or you can use your academic Department if you are categorized there and pull up your teacher pages so you can see some of the changes that we make today reflected on your teacher pages. Noe keep in mind that the changes that we make on the back end should be reflected within your teacher page and if you are searching for your teacher page you do have an account but it's not showing in the staff directory that is an adjustment that your admin would need to make. That is the user type that should be selected. So for those admins who have added your staff but there's not populated there that is one thing that you do want to be sure to double-check. So on the admin side, let's cover the basics here. First keep in mind that the module that you have on your dashboard are always according to your privileges so teachers, if you have you know the option just to maintain your teacher page you should see the basic 7 modules. If you have additional privileges or you know you're giving you have been given access to other areas to maintain you're going to see two columns one personal and one school or you'll have a additional modules on your dashboard. Now, what we want to do first is keep in mind that with your teacher pages you want to start with updating your bio so to do that we're going to start with the profile and add our bio so go to the account drop down menu click profile for those of you who need to update your name your position any additional details you have that option here some of you may even need to update your password so click change password update the password to something more familiar to you here. Outside of the password there's a photo option here. This is the photo that will be shown in the staff directory. Click the pencil in the bottom right-hand corner, drag and drop your photo here. this is also the photo that will be shown in your emails.teachers now have the option to send emails so for those of you who were unaware of that option I'm definitely going to walk you through that I'm really excited to you you don't have our teachers start implementing this feature on your end. Now there's also a request privileges here for those of you who have you know the great responsibility not just being a teacher but you have other responsibilities you may maybe a coach or you you know need to you have access to other areas to maintain certain content. That's what your request privileges button is for. You can submit this request to your admin and they can approve of that request and adjust the access that you have . Next option. edit your profile. Again we're just adding the basic or updating the basic details in your profile so the username keep in mind that cannot be changed only your admins can do that for you otherwise you may want to add a title change the spelling of your name and your position here your email address should always be your school email address and if you click additional information, maybe you want to add an extension, your school's contact information you definitely have that option below. As your details, you can click save. So now we want to do is add or update a bio. Now I want you to think of it like this if as a parent you go to your child's page, what would you want to see about that teacher maybe those are certain details that you want to add on your end and it doesn't have to be too expansive sometime some of you may think you know I have to add my whole life story. That's not really the case here, maybe you can just add you know how long you've been teaching at the particular school right now,  what your credentials are, certain things that are happening inside of your classroom. Little updates here and there will always be something great for your parents to continuously be updated on. so to update that were going to go to page manager, and pages. So one thing I want you to keep in mind is that with your pages you can add as many pages as you need, you're going to take the same process when it comes down to either maintaining the content changing the order of your pages that show on your teacher page and even with your posts you can add as much content there as you'd like because as you'll see once we start adding content, sometime posts would be the easiest route for you to take versus creating a page. Let's walk through the process now. So what you want to do first is take the time and again we're going to create a bio first. so to do that we're going to click add a page, and let's start with a blank page option. Now for the first page only I normally recommend that the page be called maybe home, bio about me, or welcome to John Dough's class or welcome to your 5th grade class, just as an introductory title and keeping in mind that this is also the page where your profile will consist of you know all of your content details, so you want to provide your parents with an easy way to get back to that profile. I'm just going to call it home. of course you have your side panel options  and your options to add text, photos, files in the center and on the left or right side  which is where your side panels can come into play.  so I'm just going to click content here and again this is for Bio I'm just going to copy and paste a little text below. And save. We're all set with a bio . so when I go back and refresh our bio should show in the empty white space that you see here. so for those of you who are either editing or creating new pages from scratch you're going to go about this the same way and again you're able to create as many pages as you need here. So with that in mind, let's start to see additional pages that we create added to our teacher page. so we're going to use our hamburger menu let's go to calendar. Now I want to just be clear on some of the questions that you all were asking specifically about Google calendars. Unfortunately, we do not have the option right now to integrate Google calendars for teachers but do know that when this change happens in this new feature is pushed out you all will be notified both in the newsletter and in your notifications. So for now what you're going to do is Click add events, and manually add your details to your calendar. Add your title, time, and location your detail section of course has your formatting options if you'd like to use any of those that are provided, add your links and you can also add attachment here as well. Click save and we've added these details to our calendar. Whst you also want to keep in mind in this: the view of your calendar does not change you know even though you are manually adding your details some of your school calendar have the calendars integrated through Google that does not change your layout at all, so that will definitely be beneficial to you all because you will start to  see that you have the same option to subscribe to your school calendars and subscribe to the personal calendars. So teachers, if you want to add specific details to your calendar pertaining to your classroom you're going to have that subscribe option for your teacher page, it's not connected to any anything else that wasn't you know a few as you sent that email in as well. So outside of the calendar option let's go over facilities. So for those of you who are using your facilities at your school the way this works it will allow you to reserve any available facilities that your admin has provided for you all you need to do is by each facility there are three dots you can view the schedule  it will show you the items that are approved or facilities that are pending approval this is also printer friendly  and you can reserve facility you would submit your details attaching files if necessary, add any notes and reserved. You will be sent an email that goes back to your school email address letting you know if that facility has been reserved or not. let's go to the announce and email sender module. As I mentioned earlier teachers now have the option to send out emails which will become extremely beneficial to you in the long run so once you start adding your contacts and your starts to send out your emails you're going to see a huge difference in the way that you're able to communicate with your students and your parents. What you want to do if you need to edit your email address, click manage setup  and you can edit your name or if you need to edit the email address you can do that in your profile. The photo that you added as your profile will also be used at the header in your email . Once you completed that, just click save changes. So now we're going to do is walk through sending an email. You now have the option teachers to include or create a newsletter that will include the news from your school site. So that's what we're going to do now. we're going to click the first template, and click continue. We're going to add text here, you have formatting options of course that you can put in place, put the second section. There's a button here that says add newS stories. This is pulling it from your school's homepage news so you can select one or more  to be included into the newsletter, add three stories. Now before you proceed to the last section, keep in mind that you can drag-and-drop to change the order  and of course the trashcan will remove them from the list. Third section we can add more text, hyperlink, embed if you'd like,  and continue. Now the great thing about this is of course you can upload lists. Now all you need to do is convert a word doc or convert an Excel, whatever document you have all your contact information on, just convert it to a CSV file and drag-and-drop that document here. Now once you start adding all of your contacts or all of your subscribers have been added to your personal page you can also pull from that list. All of those contacts populate here,   if you would like to manually add contacts you can separate the email addresses by comma, add your subject, and you have delivery options below. It's really specific, you can just add your date and time, it's pretty straight to the point. Now the great thing about the email sender is there is a preview email button here. So when you click the preview email it's going to give you a visual of the desktop version  and the read more links that you see here will take your user back to your website. Essentially that's what you want that will increase the amount of traffic that you have coming to your site  and will also give you the mobile version. So once you're good to go here return to message if you need to add any more details you can add your content save and exit, and you're good to go. Now all of your emails will be archived in this area if you need to view the recipients, all of the recipients will be here so you have the email and the status whether or not it was received if there was an error all of those details will be available for you. So let's actually go back to pages, and one thing that you can see here is I have the ability to publish and unpublish Pages which can also be extremely useful to you all. During the summer as you prepare for the new school year and of course there is a large amount of you who are cleaning up your teacher pages now preparing for spring break. Spring break a lot of you haven't had your breaks yet or some of you have returned from Spring Break and you're cleaning up and preparing for the end of the school year. This is a great way for you to do that. If content is reoccuring, or something that you want to use for the new school year, just unpublish it, you don't have to go through the tedious process of deleting content and then reloading it later. so once I go back and refresh are outside of our bio that's been added here, now we have our calendar view. So the one thing that I did want to point out about the calendar, when your users click show all events that's actually where they'll see the subscribe button, so any changes that you make it will update their personal calendars immediately. So now let's go through the process of adding media. This process doesn't change, we've covered this before so and you have unlimited space here so you can add as many photo albums as you'd like one thing I will definitely point out is you want to be sure that you're using your alternative text for all of your images and your videos,  drag and drop your photos - the accepted file types listed below and clicking see your photos will take you to another landing page. Now when you click the photo itself,  you'll see the alternative text option.. Outside of that you can add captions, you can add subcategories, you can add more photos to this album if you'd like. What's going to happen on the front end when you refresh you're adding to your submenu here. So keep that in mind, every new page that you create or every time you're adding content, adding to your section menu here. So now let's actually go to videos. As I mentioned earlier you have two options, one is embedding so that using your source code or  if you want to add from your desktop for example - all the formats that are supported can be found just below the file. Add your title description, and the caption which is optional and there's also a disable option here. So again instead of you deleting videos that you know that you're going to use it a long run just go ahead and disable it and you should be good to go. Classes. Now some of you actually use Google classrooms which is great I do want to point out that you have the option to integrate you Google classes to your teacher page that makes it extremely convenient for your students and your parents so when they go to your page and I want to give you an idea of what that could look like, when they go to your teacher page, any class that you have actually integrated,  will have the icon to the left of the class so your student can essentially just click the class title and on that landing page, click Google Classroom - that will redirect them straight there, they'll access the content as they normally do. keeping in mind that you can add as many classes and assignments to your teacher pages as you'd like, so once you click add class, click connect and select your classes. it's just that easy. those classes will then populate to your teacher page and you will get a view like what you see here with the icons. Now for those of you who would like to manually add your classes and assignments you're going to add your course name keeping in mind for high school of course you can add, let's say you want to say  biology - as a high school teacher you may teach biology period 1, period 3, 4 and 5. Now let's say you're an elementary school teacher, you might want to be a little more specific with your course name, you can say something like John Dos 5th grade class or 5th grade math 5th grade science 5th grade language arts, it just depends on how you would like that to show on your teacher page. Now you can select the department that you fall under, if you did not see your departments here again this is something that your website administrator would need to add for you and then the term is pre-selected. Some of you may have additional terms to choose from, but again if you're looking to prepare for the new school year or the new term, you'll have a few to select from. Add your description,  add any attachments , and this is good for maybe you're wanting to add a reading list maybe you need to add a syllabus or class rules, those attachments can be listed below and then there's a question here do you teach this course with another teacher. If, I know a lot of times the elementary school teachers love this feature it allows you to share content from one class to the next so if that is the case for you, you can click yes I do, it will take you to the list of Staff - you can select those staff members who share the same Department.  if not, click save. Now that you've added your class now you can start adding your assignments. So our class is created, now I want to add an assignment. You can add the same due date for all of the classes listed below or you may have separate due dates. Add the description of the assignment, add any attachments, and save. So we've added our assignments, now when I go back and refresh we're going to see this just underneath our bio. So when your students or your parents come here and say I need to see the detail for period One, they click that item they can get a course description here, upcoming assignment with the due date and there's a subscribe button here so parents can essentially say you know what, I would  prefer to just be notified when assignments are due, they have that option below. So we listed our classes, we've added our bio we created multiple Pages now let's go to our posts. Posts is a more bolder, quicker option that some of you can actually put to use. So let's say for example you would like to add details of let's actually use a field trip as an example, we're going to add the details of the picture below, now, all of your classes are selected, let's say this particular field trip only relates to period Three and four, so we're going to uncheck one, 5 and save - we're good to go. Same thing with the file, let's say I want to add that permission slip, drag and drop that document here, add text if you need, same process here, saved and we're good to go. So when I go back to my teacher page and refresh,  these posts should show here. Now one thing I want to make you aware of, I have actually disabled my post. so if I go back to pages everything that I've created is listed here and you can see they've been disabled. so what I need to do here is Click publish, now when I refresh, those items should be live on my page. So you have your files you'll have your text and also in your section, you'll hav your post. Now this will give you a text version of the posts that you added and it's also dated. Now there's one last thing that I want you to keep in mind you have stats, and your stats is every subscriber that has subscribed to your personal page or your classes, so once those contacts start to come and the numbers in the contacts section will increase, so  you actually have a few options here - now if you click new list you can create a custom list if you'd like  or if you click on the individual classes you can add a single contact, edit the current contacts, add the contacts in bulk this is an easy way for you to maybe subscribe your parents, sometimes they don't have time sometimes they forgotten you can go a step further and subscribe the parents to the individual classes,  so keep in mind that a lot of you may want to add content differently I just wanted to show you one quick example. This profile is on the left side but there are there's text added here, there's hyperlinks added here to external sites, a class schedule and then additional contact information, but then just below that, you'll have photos and again have the option to create your pages this way, photos are here classes are also linked to Google Classroom and any additional details that you would like your parents to be made aware of you can add that content here. One thing that I would like to encourage all teachers to do listening today, you may even want to tell some other teachers to submit Pages. We have a contest currently that I would love for you all to submit pages to so add content to your teacher pages, update your teacher pages and you are able to submit that page to us and if you are chosen you will receive a prize so we're really excited to have this contest going to a way to get all of our teachers involved. I know a lot of you have had a really busy school year but I'm definitely encouraging you to keep your parents updated this way this is just a great way to continue to communicate with them and keep them up to speed with what's happening with you.
