This is a 30-minute webinar about the School News App, now available for free to all Edlio Website clients. With the School News App, parents with kids in multiple schools powered by Edlio will be able to receive news updates, review calendars, and opt for push notifications from multiple campuses. This webinar covers how schools and parents can start using the app, with no setup time needed.

Hi everyone today we're going to be talking about the Edlio School News App and how you can utilize this tool to get information out to your community in a timely manner and I'm going to start by showing you what it looks like from the CMS side how we can how we can send messages from different modules in the CMS so going to get started by coming by logging in and coming to our main dashboard and we can either access the modules here or from our hamburger menu here in the top left-hand corner so when we come to announce well then start by posting a News and Alert here So to add a new news article we click "Add News" in our top right-hand corner and then we're going to create our new news story the short summary is going to be an area where you can put a part of the full news article You want to keep it a little shorter you don't want to post all of your content here because it won't fit on the home screen so just a little blurb right here is going to be what you need to post here and then here's where we're going to add our content just like in the pages module you have formatting options here at the top we can go ahead and paste our information here if we needed to cite any sources or links to those sources we can do so here in this area and to upload a photo we can click upload or simply drag-and-drop the image from your computer desktop before it will let us save we are going to need to add our alternative text then save that. Then we also have options for when we're going to be posting this news items. you can leave it as is to post immediately or if you needed to schedule a post for a later date and time you would select the post later and and add that information here. you can also specify whether or not you want this news article to expire so if it's something that's for a limited time like a book fair for example then you can go ahead and have that post on the date that the book fair starts and then have it expire which will then archive it from your news feed so we click save and now we have an additional option here where this news announcement can then be pushed to our social media we can make a homepage pop-up alert we can broadcast it through our broadcast Voice and text we can send it to our school news app here in the alerts section and we can also send it out via email. So I'm going to go ahead and make it a homepage pop-up alert And now our home page pop-up alert will be active for 24 hours however you could always come in here and you can turn it off if it doesn't mean to be on your homepage that long. we can also send it to our school news app and you'll see all of my info has been populated here so all I need to do is click Send. so now when we navigate to our homepage and we refresh will be able to see our new news articles here's our homepage pop-up alert we can click read full story and that's going to take us directly to just a story when we come back to the homepage we can also say don't show this again so you can continue navigating throughout the website we come down to our news and announcements you'll see here are article when we click on it and then once again brings us to that news article you can also get additional communication across through a homepage widget here so when you set up a page with additional information we can click our homepage button and that is also going to give us that additional information that we had created in our pages when we come back to our admin site we can also share information. via our calendar so we can create a new calendar event We'll then be able to specify any times or locations needed for your event we we can also have this repeat so we can have it repeat daily weekly monthly and yearly So since we're going to be closed through May 1st we'll click we want it to repeat daily until May 1st so it'll automatically add in all of those dates to your calendar so you don't have to manually add each and every day if we wanted to add any links we could so if we wanted to our link here for our school closure information we would just copy that URL and add that link here. We could also attach any necessary files so we click save and now you can see here that we have been added to our calendar here school closed for spring break so when we come to our home page and we refresh you can see our news events our events calendar so today on the 19th you'll see our school closed for spring break has been added and as we scroll through we can show all of our events and they will be populated here. Our school closed for spring break we can also select any additional calendars to show the information that is in any of these other calendars here. we can also access the app directly by coming to our announce and coming to app alerts so once again this is just another way that we can send out that additonal information so you can see the one that we posted just a few minutes ago is living here and we can also add a new alert manually by clicking new alert. and then we can click send now so now we'll see if that any of any of the news articles or the app alerts that we have posted are going to populate here and when we come back to our home page we'll see that all the info that we just pushed out is going to be living on the homepage so anybody who comes to the homepage will be able to access that important information now we're going to show you what the app looks like from the side of the app from the view of the app just a moment hello everyone thanks for Ashley now we are going to show you how things look on the school news app and again you are looking at my phone basically here you have the school news app icon and you will see here a bubble notification because we already received two of them so we will just click on them once it is open we'll just drag to the bottom so it has a quick refresh and as you can see here you're going to be able to look at the bottom you have the alert button the events, news or you can also choose what kind of school are you going to be looking for information from so in this case we're looking at. lets go to the alerts option where you can see that the information that Ashley had sent the last one was we hope you have a good day basically you can see that it was posted today the previous one was the school was closed and basically from here you can scroll up and down if I click on the news it will guide me to exactly the same window that Ashley was mentioning before that it had more relevant information about it. So I can read more and see what happened with that specific news and alert every time it has a link I will be able to click on it if we go on to the events icon I can on the other hand you're going to see the calendar and as you recall on her example she mentioned that the school was going to be closed until April 1st so if I just scroll down and I will the preview month and the dates that were happening there and in this case if I click specifically to the school closed for spring break I'm going to be able to see a little bit more information again if I click on the icon and the link I will go back to that specific news with more information and to learn more about it if I clicked on the X I will be able to go back to the news or I also have the option if I want to share it with other people I could do that as well if you need it I can go and click back and keep scrolling to the different events that I've been displaying here you have the option to filter if you want to decide depending on the school that you already uploaded you have the option to decide in this case Elder College Prep what kind of notifications of the calendar you want to receive. Lets say for some reason I do not have a kid in Football I can disable that option I'm not interested in the training calendar either so by doing that it will only display information regarding to that specific calendar I'm interested in now I would click on news Icon here is where you can see a little bit more information also see the images you can scroll to the bottom and now lets say we want to learn a little bit more about what happens with virus information I the last update and you can see the source when was it published and what category information you also have the option to share it if needed and if we click back its pretty self-explanatory and how it could look like now if you click on the school's icon this other hand here is where you going to be able to add or delete any schools in case you have kids in different schools. Here is where you are going to be able to enable notifications and you are going to be able to add a school and by doing that you will just need to type the name of your school and with just a quick refresh you'll be all set to go and in my case as you can see I have one that says Colegio Edlio and on the other hand I also have Edlio College Prep so I will be receiving information every time I look into the information and any of the options I am seeing information of both this case as you can see. Here is where it says Edlio College Prep information or in this case for example here is an announcement or Colegio Edlio aside from that this is pretty much how notifications are pushed immediately as soon as you publish it from your site so if you have any questions I am going to put myself on mute and we will listen to any questions you may have.
