Good afternoon! My name is Misty and I am a Client Success Specialist at Edlio In Austin and thank you so much for joining us. Welcome to our 2020 Wrap Up: Teacher Pages webinar. Today we will be covering some of the ways to wrap up the 19-20 school year using your CMS teacher pages and we'll give you some tips and tricks for starting to think about your 2021 Teacher Pages. As always, as you are participating in the webinar please submit any questions that you might have in the chat and we will have a live agent ready to collect your questionions. At Edlio, our mission is to make the lives of educators easier and today specifically will be focusing on our teacher pages and these are some of the bullet points, some of the topics that will be covering-- End-of-year class procedures, Grade updates, Assignments, the way you can post Student Awards or Recognitions on your pages, getting excited about next year, introducing the next group of teachers and posting summer resources to avoid what teachers call the summer slide. Now let's hop over to CMS website to see these features in action So, as you can see this is our dashboard for the content management site and the place that we will start today, as you can see I'm logged in as a teacher. So when you have a teacher logged in you will see a limited amount of icons on the desktop and the first thing that we will start to do is to see how we can use teacher pages to help wrap up the year for students specifically. So the first thing we're going to do is to go to a teacher page and as you can see these are all of the things that you would see on the admin side of that teacher page. Throughout this webinar we will be toggling back and forth between the admin site and the live site. So as you can see this is the site that your visitors will see when they come to the page and the section menu is something we will be referring to today. So as we look we're going to start with the end of the year check out details. A lot of schools right now are helping students come collect their belongings so one thing that you could do is build a page with some details in it. For example, I've created a page called the classroom cubby clean out and given my parents and guardians a specific day based on their last name, that they can come collect their students items. So, this page will be housed on my section menu-- Classroom Cubby Clean Out-- anyone who has subscribed to my page will receive a notification. Another way that I would let them know is by posting it on my calendar. So anyone who has subscribed to my calendar would receive a notification that students with this last name would clean out their cubby on this date. So as we head back to the admin site you can see this is how it's very easy to build a page and to add content and to add a photo. Other things that you could do here-- you could add photos in a separate section or you could edit that current section. You could also add files. Some schools will have a PDF already created from the office that teachers can share with their classes specifically and as soon as you click publish when you make any changes everything will show up on your live site. So let's go to see how we can create a calendar event. You go to your hamburger menu, Plan, and Calendar. Let's make sure that-- I don't think we made any changes but we always want to publish just to be safe. When we go to our calendar we see there's already been one of the events created-- "Students with Last Name Cubby Clean Out Day!" When we click on this we see how easy it is to create an event. You can link to a page that you have already created, you can add details, specifically the time range, and then when you click save this will show up under the teacher's calendar. And parents subscribed to the page will receive a push notification and when they click on the event-- this is what it would look like and they can see the event and they have some options here. They could copy that to their calendar. They can also print or see it in a calendar view to see all of the other things that they have to keep on their calendar. If they have not subscribed already they can click subscribe at this point. This is another way that they can subscribe to your calendar. Another thing that you can do using your calendar is post calendar events about updated office hours. For example, exam schedule, sometimes create a different schedule throughout the week, end of the year Zoom class parties, final exam schedules, and graduation plans. These are some other things that teachers can post calendar events that will feed to their page. So let's head back over to the teacher page and talk about grades. So this year's very unique for determining grades and the passing the way that students understand and families understand the they will pass a class. So, each school or district would likely have a central location built just for this topic and what I want to show you is a way to grab the link that perhaps your school or district has already created. So in doing that I will log out as a teacher and I will log back in as a web admin and you can see here that I'm going to find something about grading policy so I don't if you don't remember exactly where it is in your internal organization you can always search pages and we're typing in "grading policy" and here we have some PDFs that we've already put onto a page that our district or school has already put on and this is a way that we can quickly grab this link and take it back to our page. So then logging out and you could perhaps send that link in an email to your teachers So then teachers are able to go in and build a section on grading-- "Remote Learning Grading Policy"-- and the way that they would do this is by adding a page and instead of choosing a blank page they would link to another page where they would say "District..."give it a title and then paste the link they have just received. So, the result is a section built onto their side that automatically posts the policies. So why is this important for teachers because a lot of times they would receive emails and questions and it's great for teachers to have a central location to direct parents to something that answers all of their questions. The last point on "End of the Year Procedures" that we want to cover is assignments. So when you go to a teacher's page it's never too late to start a good habit. Everyday you can put your daily assignments on and have them post automatically on to your page. Your subscribers would receive a notification and you can also sync your Google classroom with your teacher pages. So when we go back to this teacher page, you can see how there is a post section here and assignments would post would be held right underneath that. Something to encourage your teachers to do is to copy their posts and be prepared to paste them onto the next year. One common practice for administrators is to go in and once again I'm going to log out of my teacher user and log back in as an admin. Administrators need to change the term length so that teachers are able to create pages for the next term. So I'm going to show you how to do this. If you go to your hamburger menu and you scroll to Classes and scroll to Terms. As you can see the current term starts Monday July 1st 2019 and ends Tuesday June 30th 2020 so you went to make sure that your teachers are able to, you know approximately a month before school starts, be able to start on their pages. So the way that you would do this is you would create a new term and you would call the term Fall 2021 and as soon as you click save this will hold a term that will enable your teachers to to create Pages for the next school term. This is something that is necessary for those teachers to be able to create their next teacher pages. So as we move on to the next section, we will start talking about another way that you can use your teacher page. So let's hop back over to the live site. Another way that you can use your teacher page is to recognize student achievement and specifically in your classes and as a former teacher when I hear, when I think about some of the difficulties that I had with creating student awards, a little bit of anxiety bubbles up because I know that it's a lot of work. It's a very sensitive subject in choosing students and recognizing them. So I was hoping to show you using these pages makes it a very simple process but also to give you some teacher tips. One very good practice is to meet with other grade level teachers to choose students together to make sure that you are getting a comprehensive view of the student's work and behavior in all classes. It's important also to not just think about academic achievement but to think about things like students that are helpers, students that have a unique talent, creativity, students that go the extra mile, outstanding improvement, that started out and finished at a different standard, a different pace, students who read a lot, students who have some kind of skill that's different from just academics because during this time our students you know they will remember this period of time for the rest of their lives when they were quarantined and doing online learning so it's very important for us to remember to recognize them. Another thing, you could ask trusted students to assist you in this process, make sure that all the responsibility isn't falling onto your shoulders. Another thing that you could do, so for example let me show you an example, in your posts sections. Which means you can go to log out of your admin site and let's go back to the teacher site. When you go down to posts under the hamburger menu, this is a place where you can you have lots of options for how you can post things. You can add text, just type something. You can add a link that can be clicked on. A photo, a file or video and so for this post I've called it a Student Shout Out and in order to see this you would drag a file, a PDF file or a Word Doc and drag it, give it a title, and in the end it would show up in your posts section as a Student Shout Out and then when your parents and community clicks on this, they would be able to see a template that you could use-- Today's Student Shout Out goes to this student and you could say what the specific award is for. Using your posts section on your page is a great location for that. So let's go back to our page and the final section the final details that we'll talk about here are ways to get your Teacher Pages ready for students for next year and one thing that I will just allude to is how important it is to talk with students about meeting their next year teachers so as an administrator or as maybe a department lead the links for your teachers' pages could be sent out in an email. It's very easy to link grab within this. So for example "Mrs. Rosenberg- Meet the Teacher!" this is my home kind of building page. This gives my students an opportunity to know me to get to know how many years I've been teaching, what are my interests are, a picture if that's something you're comfortable with and right here when you click on this, you can grab this link and send it to the teacher who will for example, when I was a 7th grade teacher I would send this link to the 6th grade teachers who would share it on their site and introduced me to their students. This helps students to get, to feel less nervous about the coming year and to be able to speak with students who had me this year and make sure teachers, to update your About Me to reflect the 2021 school year and to say hello to the 2021 students in your notes and so then whenever students come to this page this gives them an opportunity to see who they'll be learning with. They can also look at assignments from the past when they click on that specific class, they can see some of the things that were done the year before, and grading policy a lot of times teachers will post their syallbus on the side just so they can-- parents and students-- can prepare for the coming year. The last section that we'll talk about in our Wrap-Up 2020 teacher pages webinar is summer resources. As a teacher we often call this the summer slide where if we didn't prepare students enough for the summer that they could slide academically so I'm going to show you how to create some resources, create a section on your teacher page for resources and also to link to your district and schools sites So we will log out and back into the teacher. "How to Beat the Summer Slide" I pulled a link from from the district website and so when you click on this link... [silence] ... just one moment. [silence] When you click under Academics and "Beat the Summer Slide" this gives your community a visual to what the summer slide is. What is the summer slide? There's a some links you can link to infographics. This is a great place to introduce your library page and also to feature how easily, how easy it is to check out e-books over the summer and finally to link to some resources so for example your teachers can create or find lots of difference book recommendation sites and show these two students ahead of time and also some of the common resources, teachers always have a very vast bag of tricks so this is a great place to link in the section menu some of those summer resources. So, to sum up today, let's go back to the homepage. To sum this up, the teacher page is a great place to send people when they have questions specifically about how to end the year, what procedures need to be put into place and also to leave students and community with a feeling of camaraderie and connection especially in this time of quarrantine and COVID when we're separated from each other and this is also a great place to get students excited about next year. So that the summer is more meaningful and gives them an opportunity to think about what's to come.
