Hello and welcome to our My Edlio webinar Today's webinar is about using our news and alerts feature and tying that in with the social media manager my name is Cathy and I'm on the Client Success team I'm also here with my colleague James from the technical support team who is here to answer any questions that you have so feel free to ask your questions in the chat box So first on the homepage we have our news and announcements which can be found here you can adjust news items to show on your homepage and that can be found in Settings which I'll show you in a bit So if we click on Show All News you'll see all your news posts and you can navigate back to see view your older news And back on the admin site this is my dashboard and I have full admin access you can of course use the modules displayed here on your dashboard or you navigate your admin site by using the hamburger menu so to get to our news we can go to announce news and alerts and the category of the news that you see here is our news and announcements category and these are the posts that show up on your homepage you can have numerous news categories which you can link separately and maybe on your site navigation or if you need to create like a quick one for it just let us know you can contact either your client success specialist or tech support and you can have different news categories in your settings and I'm going to actually walk you through that as well and today's webinar disabled news are any new stories that you've disabled  but not deleted so you can almost imagine this as kind of like on archive to come back to edit the content or even enable it for the public and that option is available if you hover over your News-Post I want to begin by adding a News Post And as you can see you have the option to select which news category you'd like to post as mentioned using announcements is your main news category that that displays on your homepage you can add to multiple categories so let's type in our headline and our short summary we suggest keeping this brief so that it doesn't crowd your homepage maybe like one or two sentences and you have three ways to deliver your news content which is where you can add longer paragraphs and use our formatting options you can add bullet points inline images link to a file maybe you have a flyer that you'd like to post or link to a page which would redirect the parent or community member to a separate URL I'm going to add content okay and then of course you can cite your source if you'd like and upload pictures to your Edlio site from your computer Dropbox Google drive or Microsoft Drive don't forget to add your alt text you have two delivery options you can choose to post now or you can schedule for a future date and time you can also choose to have this post expire which means that it will no longer be visible on your homepage after the expiry date but it'll still appear on your new and announcements page make sure we have everything and I'm going to save and once we have saved our changes, you have a few options to push this News Post so you can use our social media manager which is either through Facebook or Twitter Instagram doesn't have a desktop version but of course if you want to maybe add a feed if you're interested in that contact your client success specialist and you can create a homepage alert which is essentially a pop-up alert App Alerts which is through the school news app which everyone now has access to and is free so if you have questions about that contact your client success specialist we can help you get started and of course as well the email sender so I'm going to briefly show you the homepage alert do you have to choose an expiration date and time for the alert to disappear from your homepage and once you post it let's go back to our home page refresh and users will get a prompt that they can't ignore unless they choose to either read the news post or dismiss it by clicking okay and our News Post is displayed here and you have the option to edit the expiry date or turn it off altogether and now if you want to push this news to Facebook or Twitter you can do so through the admin site by using the social media manager and if your account isn't connected you can click on the Twitter or Facebook icon and you'll be directed to the settings page and this is where you can connect your account so you can connect your account by entering your credentials here we do recommend that you set up developer accounts and we have step by step instructions in our help center for both Facebook and Twitter if you have questions regarding this please reach out to the support team one thing I do recommend if you have the social media manager already set up and you want to set up your developer account you have to first disconnect and then reconnect and while we're in our settings page let's navigate over to news and this is where you can adjust the number of home page items you can also add a news category from here these are all your news categories that we currently have and then we can add a new one now that I have done that I'm going to bounce back to the news feature I'm going to choose the category that I just created and I'm going to add news and as you see when I clicked on that my news category is already marked off enter in the headline short summary and this time maybe I want to upload a file and then upload a feature photo hit save so let's go back to news and alerts find my category and as you can see it's posted but we have this news category and the admin site that isn't available to the public so you can definitely add this to the drop-down menu so if we go to site management and site navigation which is where you can update the items you see on your home page drop down menu displayed up here so let's try to find a place where I want the news to be displayed maybe here and since this is a feature that we provide we're going to click on feature page select a feature we can search for the feature and in this case that would be news and you'll be presented with a list of the news categories I'm going to click on my category save my changes and then back on the public site on the drop-down menu we can find a news category that we posted to and of course you can keep building it so that it would have the same effect that you see on your news and announcements page keep in mind that the most recent news that you create are displayed on the homepage but you do have the option to drag-and-drop items from from your page
