Alright, everyone! I think we are ready to get started! Thank you so much for joining us for this My Edlio Webinar. Today we will be looking at some new, nifty, and creative ways that you can utilize the news and alerts feature. Let's start with the most important question of the day-- what is the news and alerts feature? It's a super powerful tool to stay in contact with your school Community you can post news that goes right to your homepage whether you just want to post a different story announcements articles things of that nature and these stories can be pushed to the edlio school news app which parents can download and receive these updates on their phone right now over the last couple of years we've no some school districts at utilizing at least site using the news and alerts feature out in a way that we originally had an anticipated so we decided to highlight to some of the special ways this tool is being utilized you're filling a tire webinar around it that being one of our core modules here and you have an epidural site I am pretty sure you're using the news and alerts feature quite a bit I'm so unique and creative ways that you can utilize this tool School Community let's get started now the first thing I want to do here is show you the news feature and how it's supposed to be used as intended from there we'll jump into some creative ways that we can use it now I'm right now you'll see here I am logged in as Daniel Benson I am a webadmin on the edlio college prep site here as important to note that because are you only really be able to use the news and alerts feature if you are a web admin or if you are a staff member who has been granted news and alerts privileges by the super admin on your school site so I let's say you know you're a teacher you're logging in a you might not see this news and alerts feature here right now let's go ahead and get over there and get there boom bam brings out right you don't go to the hamburger drop down menu go to announce news alerts another way to get there from the top here let's start you with categories cuz I'm a lot on categories today it's pretty much how we're going to build out all these different ways that we're going to be using the news feature other than just posting to your homepage this allows you to show different news about different topics you'll have all the categories here so you can have I a category 4 school-wide news that goes right to your home page which I get would be found under news and announcements here in category for athletics a different one for your department who is you get what I'm saying here it's going to come into play later because it's really going to help you manage news minutes I'm in different places I would Niall Horan be looking at today and let's look at how we would actually go ahead and add a news here I do want to show you here so these are all of the current news stories on under news and Frontier you'll see her with that home page tagged home page home page home page I know if we hop over here College Prep site over to the other college prep homepage here and you'll see an announcement these are those news stories that were seeing over here alright so let's look at the news and alerts feature as intended as a redhead some news right now let's go. To add news I want to first things that will see here under a post two are all of the different categories so we can actually post this shoot multiple categories if we want right now I'm just now leaving news and announcements checked off now we have our headline a short summary of which will appear here so here we have our headline done and that's where the short summary will be before the viewer clicks into the actual story itself we come down here with a few different options that we contents of the real meat of the story now if you just want to add your content here manually use a text editor over here you could always link to a file a lot of schools in if they're adding notes from smelling like a school board meeting or adding a school supply list for we incorporated the supply list feature here and we saw a lot of schools using up PDFs in new stories like this without lot of schools will use PDF there is also a link to a page if you want you can link to any he's on the web that you'd like to hear if you want to if you want to redirect your audience specific page on your edlio site so if they did linked to a page and they click on this are the headline here they would be brought to that web page that you are a linking them to down here you're able to attach a feature photo if you do not attach a photo you do not have to attach a photo to a new story but if you don't want to do things will happen either show your school go here where the images will just beat your School logo login to your admin pay do you usually see your School logo there and that is what you'll see here for the new story or there will be no image at all won't be your School logo on every site is different depends on how they coded someone of the School logo automatically appear there must be no image again it's all depends how your site was coded now I'll go back over here to the admin side and then here we just have our delivery options you can post now going to post it later you can also set the post to expire so it has not seen on the site after a certain date and time all right so pretty straightforward right that is the news tool as in if you're using it for its intended use you I'm just keeping your school energy update a job you are crushing it that is what it is used for and you're doing a great job these categories again okay organizing your news up break them up in different ways to incorporate different categories you can use them for purposes and place them in different parts of your sight the first off I'll show you how we can add a new category so we'll go up here to the hamburger drop-down menu will go to site management and settings I'll go down here to news all right here we have our news categories will see through that they are numbered so we add a new category the automatically assign a number there so look like five is open today is going to be a category order number their let's go ahead and give it a title in this case where two School Board news and we'll save that awesome we have that set now so let's go ahead and hop back over to the news feature all right and Grandad news now I'm going to unselect news announcements here I'm going to put this is just under School Board news that category that we just create add a headline here in this case up we're going to add some agenda meeting notes here so 22 board agenda meeting notes and we want to add our short summary again remember that short summer is going to appear right down here all right great now down here again we can add content directly here we can link to a file and we can link to a page when it comes to board agenda meeting notes again we see them a lot in PDF form a full Squadron this ad as a page with I have them saved as a Google doc that people can go in and view all right we can catch a featured photo if we want post now and we'll go ahead and Save all right awesome our news is saved now since we did not post this under the news and announcements category again this will not be posted on the homepage how do we get eyes on it what what do we do now I know I think a place to go ahead and add this would be to our site navigation up here now. We do have all these other ways that we can announce the news here social media manager homepage alerts size you can send out a text email a phone call to to to the family to let them know about this news app alerts again utilizing that ugly old school news app recommending try to get the word out about that to two parents we do have an article in our help center that has information about how to get parents on the Aloha School News app with them some actually some someone sheet some flyers that you can print out and get out to your your school Community there are you also add this to a newsletter here but I can up aside from using the truck today is about different ways that we can utilize a snooze feature that we wanted to add the school board news here. Because you know it is dated it's this time stamps to which would be good for this school board news I'm thinking right now we can actually go ahead and add this to the site nav up here again I'm looking at these I think parents would probably be the best place to go ahead and post that Serena go over here the hamburger drop-down menu we're going to site management site navigation all right and we will Mosey on down here to parents there's a parent sign up container all of the site nav items here all right so we can go about this so this is not a page so remember this is a news item using alerts a feature so we're not going to go ahead and use that it's not a page we won't find it there URL we could add it as you already have that URL from the that the one we share the story itself there's URLs we can click in there and see the new story we could do it that way kind of inefficient though we could to file Winfield as a file but can you can add a fire to sign if you want but this is a feature right the news and alerts to Liz a feature here so we select feature we'll go down here to news now all twenty four categories here final open that up and we will come down here to our school board news all right awesome and I will save that okay awesome if we come over here to the edge Hill College Prep homepage we go to that parents said that the Tanner down here we have the school board news a sign of item click in that there we go to any other story that we adhere is going to go ahead and automatically added to order here so this is going to show all news in that category so again I'll be at an almost like a Blog here parents and go through and see all the past board agenda meeting notes again I think this is a much better way to do this then you lysing a page for school board meeting again we have that date stamp there I just really helps you know kind of put it in time to what your posting here all right now what other request that we receive pretty regularly here are our four blocks spaces this feature is the best way to accomplish that you can do it through Page Management on a page if you want but you know if you do it that way at you won't have that time said that that they stamp were talking about before really the news on new similar to each other is the best way to get a Blog going you know sometimes we will see no principles Blog My added as a homepage alerts and if there's nothing special thing that they want they want to need to know about if they don't they have a new post something like that so we can actually go ahead how we do that now know first thing we want to do of course is add the principles blog category so go back down to site management and settings news all right we'll add that new category will title it principles blog alright great there we go. Let's go ahead and email our first post as the principal for the principal's blog again we'll go to news and alerts add news remember we want to uncheck that news in and and so does not show up on the homepage if you want to you can definitely keep it selected then you know you can select multiple categories here so it'll appear in both but in this case we'll just keep this under the principal's blog there we go right in the first we want to do is add our headline so go ahead welcome message from principal warmer all right and then for summary welcome to do college prep all right there's going to be some General in Shallotte a principal warmer brand new principal at Elliott College Prep here and she wants to go head and you know I send this walk a message turn into the school Community letting you know a little about herself so we'll go ahead I just copied and pasted of this I have this one pre-prepared here I copied and pasted it without the formatting symbols I'm going through now cleaning up a little bit if you will all right I will scroll down here what's that a phone number for the Westin Hotel on this time add a photo of principal warmer in action okay a number one we want to make sure we are adding that all text remember we add all text to screen readers can read with his images of for anybody that might be using a screen reader anyone that might be it might be visually impaired so they know what what image that we are coasting along side this okay we can post that now and we'll safe awesome so we have our principles blog our first post they're pretty cool now Daniel we talked about this before have we had more eyes on this we can add it to our site navigation like we did before social media manager to get more eyes on it so I sent it out to our Facebook and Twitter to me like that as a homepage former new principal there and so that way when people come to the site they have to see this news this this this blog entry here and we'll see what it looks like after I post it here so all you have to do here is it up when you want this to go ahead and fire default to 24 hours so I if I know if I don't change this right now it'll all other defaults to turn this homepage alert off after 24 hours so I'll post that okay okay we're here at the college prep site will go back to this homepage might see a couple refreshes here there we go there is our home page alert to order for me to go anywhere I need to acknowledge this homepage Alert in some way so I either need a message from Principal warmer I can read the full story or don't show again here at the school I want to read the full story I want to hear what principle warmer has to say something slick so sorry are there we go the first entry in principle warmers blog anytime she wants to make a new entry or she can do that she can you make another homepage alerts but no be added to that same category it's pretty cool another great way to use the news feature create a blog you know create a welcoming space where people can go and just like this something to get to know you you know a principal refuses for a personal space where people can come and let you know more about her important things that she thinks that school Community should know about the art necessary to be part of the news and announcements are I love the idea of a Blog space for a principal it just a connection to to administrator at your school at a build a relationship with your school community that I think is invaluable all right in front of the last little tidbit here for you. We can use the Avenues in alerts feature here so I am on Rilo high school right now and I'm here because I want to take advantage of this Shuffle space here I'll show you how we can make make a news item and then link it here to your Shuffle I'm in a fun way no way that we actually we see quite a lot now and that is to highlight of someone special at your school now however you however you want to do that is completely up to you we see a lot of times I'm high letting you be a student of the month sometimes it we're highlighting seniors will be graduating in the upcoming school year and then offered this actually we're going to be being a teacher of the month so I what I did was I already created a teacher of the month news category that previously you now is a jump over tour news alert I'm going to go ahead and filled out by the teacher of the month for February 2022 and that way you know you keep them all together is that way if somebody goes in to that specific category you know they can just go through and see all the previous The Munsters The Munsters ever you want to do there a way to keep everything together so I'm going to go over here to this category teacher of the month and to give me the first time we're posting one of these here so it's not any other the lad news or ever again if we wanted to go ahead and add this to some other categories we could do that as well but we're going to keep this with a teacher of the month I news categories Grandad our headline February's teacher of the month is keeping them guessing all right and we can have them a short summary I can see ride the bottom there who it is but at down here in the content you know however you want to do it the way we seen a lot of schools do it is just kind of doing either like an interview with the Personnel or I'm explaining why the deserves this is what I deserve to be on this case the teacher of the month we seem like they kind of like a interview them or I can answer the questions what specific things they like we did an interview with Majid Ali here some of her favorite things and you know we had little idea of who she is as a as a teacher and what makes her so great and why she was getting the teacher of the month for February 2022 we have all of that there would have been copied and pasted that to say what's up all the time when I scroll down here let's go ahead and add a photo of Miss mass of Delhi I can remember to add that all text alright great want to post that now we will save okay I'm here is where we're going to switch things up a little bit from what we're doing previously so I'm not going to go right here use this link to view this why so I have the URL copied I remember what I want to do right now is link that new story to the shuffle here so people can come here click on this image of an image here on the shuffle and then be able to go the new story in and find out who the teacher of the month is so we'll go over here to the admin side never going to be doing some of the shuttles going to find that under media and Shuffles now not every site has a shuffle don't have videos I don't respond before at the college prep a full screen video this one has a shuffle at every size difference Amino so depending on what you have on your site or submit make make the best of what you got there and if you ever want to make any changes to say anything like that you want to do a Rita's reach out your client success specialist were always always happy to talk to you about that I so want to do this one here this main homepage all right we'll go ahead the photos when I add a new photo alright I went ahead and has created a little Banner using canva a premade one here for the teacher of the month alright who get the teacher of the month February click to find out so I can do here is add the liquid that you are I just copy of the new story I'm going to head piece that here all right we go ahead here can I have some texture if you want all right make sure we add that text all right I won't save now let's go view this on the website all right there you going to get to that is clickable that and it opens right into our new story pretty cool right so again this is a great way just to go ahead and highlight someone in your school using that news feature I can't I recommend using the news feature here cuz it kind of has them all together right so if you going to do something like this we're doing something monthly weekly however you want you can keep them all organized out with date and time stamps to look a little bit neater and then also people can go through your archives there and see you in the past so I'm yeah teacher staff student appreciation great way to use the adnews feature all right and I think
