hello and welcome to this edlio study hall on intro to teacher pages my name is Taylor I'm a trainer here with edlio and I'll be leading you through today everything you need to know to get started on your teacher page so what we'll be covering in today's session it's all about helping you bridge the communication gap between yourself and your parents and students we're going to cover the basics to help you set up your teacher your page add content and customized so that the teacher page suits the needs for the information that you want to share I'm going to share strategies for making all of that information that you're going to put on your page clear easy to find and Visually appearing this is going to help you think of strategies to boost communication and encourage your interaction between your classroom and your families and you can even consider building a strong online community by having folks subscribe to your teacher page I'll go ahead and show you how they can do that in just a minute before we jump in What are teacher pages we I see personal page when I log into my dashboard what are we talking about all Ed Leo accounts come with personal Pages which we like to call teacher pages because it's a page all about you you can use this as a central hub for parents students and school community members to access all the information they need to know about your classes clubs activities and so so on I'm going to go ahead and show you a few examples of teacher pages and then we'll go ahead and jump into our dashboard and see how we can reverse engineer some of the elements that we're going to see so that you can design your teacher page exactly as is going to meet your needs so first up we have this more traditional teacher page um for a middle school math teacher we have a biography up top now as we'll see every teacher page automatically comes with your contact card your name your email we can go ahead and subscribe if I am a parent and or a student and I'm going to show you where that subscription information is going to end up um on your end um I can go ahead and uh look at Mr Brennan's section menu here I'm going to other resources and um posts that he has made here are some of his posts posts is a feature that allows you to create a blog and add nice updates with videos images files so on and so forth um if I subscribe to a teacher page um I'm going to get an update whenever you post something new to your page whenever you make a new post or add information so that is a benefit for your subscribers let's move on and check out some other options this is a very different option um because we have Miss Torres here who's kept her page very clean we've have a great use of Graphics that she's made you can make graphics for free like this on sites like canva um giving all of the expectations 4 students and parents and Guardians to know we've got a uh section menu adding some links for her students and families to have at hand some photos of her classroom she's got a previous website that she was already working with she can simply link it here and have all of this short and sweet um uh messaging linked to her School's staff directory where folks find your teacher page like I'm going to show you in just a moment she also had this really helpful graphic to join um her school's mass communication system in this case remind and voila now we've also got Mr cures um the procedure page here this is another more traditional option um we always recommend having a an about me posted um so that folks can get to know you especially parents and Guardians who are not in the classroom with you every day he's got some photos posted with his family we've got um some different pages in his section menu housing um class syllabi a different class notes different artifacts like videos photo albums your academic planning guide links I even have a great Button making that epidemic planning guide super um uh front and center for my students he's got his Google Classroom classes linked here so I can go ahead and go in to coding to and check out some of that information I can even see upcoming assignments um without having to cross that Google SSO sign-in wall so here I can go and open and really see everything about this class but I'm going to be able to see some information just as a parent coming in which can be very helpful then again we've got our posts which is an awesome blog space where he's sharing some um you know great activities that have happened in class finally we have missed Pardo's teacher page here's another short and sweet page example we've got an awesome use of our hero image layout um she's made a gift so her memoji is dynamically moving across the page inviting us in and then she's strategically using collapsible Fox sections to go ahead and house the information that she wants to share like her welcome newsletter uh her back to school slides all that information with her course expectations and so on and so forth at linked right here um easily for folks to find using again those collapsible box sections so we're going to go ahead now and and build a page using all of these different types of page blocks from content to Media to files to buttons in your teacher page and then we'll go ahead and jump into some of those additional features like adding your classes or work at UH publishing some posts so let's go ahead and jump into our dashboard all right so here is my dashboard of My Demo teacher um a few things I want want to note I can come up to my account and to my profiles um uh for my account to be able to add my photo for my teacher here Adrienne Keller you can simply again log into your dash board when you're admin give you credentials come to account come down to profile and if you don't have a photo here we really recommend adding a photo so that that adds that personal element on your teacher page even if it's just a selfie we're I go ahead and upload from our computer or cloud service any of those accepted file types so that they go ahead and display at the top of our teacher page in our contact card all right so that I can go ahead and Center my profile photo and there I am with my demo teacher now if you want to edit any additional personal content you can do that in your profile your content has been set for you by your admin but if you want to go ahead and add more context to your um let's say uh position so on and of course you can go ahead and add that uh following your admin ideas for how they want you to use the teacher page all right now how can I find And subscribe to a teacher page before we even build our page how are students and parents and school Community going to find my teacher page well your school's homepage you are going to locate your staff directory your staff directory is uh often on your site navigation menu or on your homepage and I'm going to locate that teacher now based on again how my site has been designed um my profile photo might be showing here um I might have my position my email my phone number but when I click on my name that that is what is going to become my teacher page so this is the blank slate we are working with again in order to encourage your students parents and families to find And subscribe to your teacher page you are going to encourage them to go to the staff directory and click on your name and go ahead and subscribe to your teacher page and there I've gotten and subscribed and we're going to see that subscriber in my contact list later on in the training now now that we've subscribed let's go ahead and build out our page I'm going to come to the hamburger menu to page management and to pages now if I see any Pages here in category Pages these are going to be pages that the um admin have gone ahead and um uh allowed me to edit based on maybe the depart that I'm in or the clubs that I lead for everyone else we are going to be working in a personal pages so if you don't say category page option then don't worry your account is standard and uh perfectly ready for you to create your teacher page we're going to come into those personal Pages come and add a page at the top right corner here we're going to go ahead and add a blank page and the first thing that I want to do is create a layout of uh choose a layout of that page so on the top right corner here I'm going to choose which layout that I would like now remember some of those examples that we saw we can have a more traditional page um with a h 1 page section or a side column but if we want to have that really enticing um top level uh image there we're going to want to choose 1 of our hero image layouts as a reminder I can come to the staff directory and look for 1 of our teachers that has a page with a hero image layout it is this image side to side really grabbing folks attention and drawing them into our teacher page that we can achieve with that hero page image now just taking a look at this page as an example we can add images to remind folks to subscribe um uh giving a little bit of life and color to my about me all sorts of awesome content that we're going to learn how to create together so let's jump back here and choose 1 of those hero image layouts so that we can go ahead and add our photo at the top I'm going to go ahead and upload any of these file types from my computer or cloud service now this is the first thing that people see when they come to your page so you want to go to head and make sure that it's a high-quality image you can again make lots of graphics on canva for free I've gone ahead and uploaded a gif so I have that dynamic movement at the top of my page drawing folks in while that uploads let's go ahead and give our page a title all right so our hero page has loaded and up here it's going to ask us for our alt text that's what keeps our website ADA Compliant so we're going to want as a best practice to give a 2 to 8 word no more than about 10 word description to what is happening in this image so that folks who use screen readers to engage with your teacher page can access the information being shared in this image now in my case I created an image on canva that has burnt in text meaning it's got text in the image itself so that is going to be um a central piece of what I want to communicate in the alt text so that when the screen reader reads all of the content to those folks of what's on my page they also uh get to read welcome to geometry and calc so on and so forth so let's go ahead and drop our alt text in all now this of course is um longer than what an ALT text description would be for a normal photo but again when we have that burnt in text it's really important that we have that information included in the all text now if I want this hero image um layout to result in a Photoshop at the top of my page I can simply add more photos here and always talking to my settings wheel for extra options in our page I'll say that as soon as there's more than 1 Photo uploaded it's going to go ahead and automatically switch to a rotation layout creating a nice um Photoshop at the top of my page I want to make sure that photo block setting is at full to get that nice side to side full screen image and I am good to go now let's go ahead and keep adding content to our page we've added a simple title here and now we're going to go ahead and start adding page blocks we'll go ahead and start with a Content page block and just like a lot of those examples we saw let's go ahead and add an About Me section at the very top here always something that we recommend that you add to your teacher page section so I'm going to go ahead and grab my text and come and drop it in my text box here lovely now I can format that text um in ways that you're probably familiar with with other word processing systems right if I want to go ahead and bold if I want to add any hyperlinks if I know HTML I'm going to play around with code I can do that I can play around with some colors now um all of these colors up until this brown here have been tested for color contrast another accessibility feature um so you can always go and pull your own colors just like I did here um but you'll want to be of color contrast on a white background and all of these photos meet those the excuse me these colors meet those requirements so you can go ahead and use those to your heart's content all right we can add some few other elements here to our content box if I want to embed a photo or a video in my About Me section I can go ahead and simply drop the cursor where I want that um uh content to populate if I want to add a photo I'm going to come here and upload that photo from my computer if I want to embed a video I'm going to click this little play button and simply drop the URL of that video that's all I need to do it's going to automatically embed that video then in the page for me again just the URL from YouTube from Vimeo so on and so forth you can go ahead and drop it there let's go ahead and drop a photo I'm going to go ahead and pull this from my computer and I'm going to go ahead and give it that alt text remember 2 to 8 word description I can go ahead and resize that image I like to just delete the last um number there to keep the image proportional and then go ahead and save or I could always go ahead and change that size manually with my cursor I'm going to go ahead and format the image to go ahead and sit between my bio exactly as I'd like and I can even make this image clickable if I want dropping a URL right here now let's check out some of our other page blocks I can go ahead and add photos to my page um and we've already seen um our options here this is the same as in that hero block section I can go ahead and add 1 Photo I can add multiple photos having it be a Photoshop on my page or a stacked photo gallery let's say I want to go ahead and use my side column to discuss the uh um the swim season because I'm also a swim code I can go ahead and add a Content box to add some text for um what I want to discuss swim team season 2025 and then I can go ahead and add photos here within my content box but the plus to adding photos with the page block is you're going to get Crisp Images um and a really nice photo gallery so let's go ahead and add some images here we're going to go ahead and give those a quick alt text description again 2 to 8 words and come up here to our settings wheel and choose stacked because we want that photo gallery option now while those upload let's also add some files to our page block you can add any file to your page so that's how Mrs Torres had was sharing some PDFs some PowerPoint slides you can even share Excel documents Word documents all sorts of different content but if you had a PDF you're going to be able to embed that PDF directly in your page so let's go ahead and upload a PDF let's say I want to upload to my syllabus I'm going to go ahead and upload the syllabus I'm going to come to the 3 dotts rename that syllabus if it's not well defined so that people know what this document is if I have a document that's not a PDF that's the file name hyperlink is going to be my only option but again if it's a PDF I can go give a small medium or large preview of that entire PDF directly on my teacher page what's more is each block you can also click to make collapsible so maybe I have quite a long syllabus I share a lot of information um and it gets a little uh difficult maybe to navigate on the mobile view I can go ahead and collapse to keep my page really succinct I recall miss torres's Page had a lot of collapsed sections keeping her page a very succinct and easy to scan in order to get that uh bolded title to tell us what is in the collapsible section we're just going to enter right here and voila I can go ahead and add more files if I want to this file page block um if I want to go ahead and drop all sorts of assignments now we do have the classes feature for that um but you can keep adding files here if needed let's go add some more stuff to our side uh column here I'll go ahead and give a quick alt text description remember 2 Tate words for time I'll go ahead and just give a very quick description and there we go now I'm going to go ahead and add a supply list supply list is a teacher feature with teacher lists you also see supply lists here in your hamburger menu you're able to come and click the supply list page block coming down to upload and manage lists on teacher list if you already don't see supply list um added by your admin or potentially um by your um co-team click on the teacher list link it's going to take you over to teacher list you're going to find your school by searching your ZIP code you're then going to um review any lists upload your new list give teacher day teacher pages um a few days uh to go ahead and process your list oftentimes it is faster than that when your list are then processed they will show up here and you'll be able to go ahead and call them on to your teacher page now I want to make supply list shopping really easy for the upcoming uh summer and back to school I can use the Domino to always change the order of my uh page blocks I can go ahead and drag this above my swim team here now I want to show you how you can use buttons and links buttons allow you to create a attention-grabbing hyperlink so if I want to share some links remember um Mr Kerr shared his academic planning guide in a really compelling button um I can go ahead and add them across my page I can add multiple buttons they're going to stack vertically here in my side column or horizontally in my larger sections now in order to create a hyperlink of this button I'm simply going to click it sometimes you got to click twice if it escapes you and and then I'm going to go ahead and drop my URL now I'm taking folks outside of our school's website so I'm going to go ahead and have that open in a new tab and give that secure link prefix https but I'm going a bunch of uh resources for my students um for their math studies that take them outside the school website so I'm going to go ahead and click that for all now where it says add label I'm going to go ahead and highlight that text delete it and type the text that I want to display in that button let's go ahead and do a few more again I'm going to click on the button I'm going to grab my URL drop it here open link in new tab I'm taking folks side of the website and replace add label with my uh text that I want to display to go ahead and play around with how that looks maybe I want to go ahead and shorten the name I can even play around with the button color I'm going to come up remember you got your settings wheel we can and click and change the button black settings picking between your school's other primary colors um to go ahead and choose the buttons that are going to best stand out and compliment your page if you need to delete a um button you can go go ahead and click the delete um trash can and voila you've got your uh links created here now I can also use links um instead of buttons uh this is going to allow you to pull links um from your teacher page um this is going to essentially allow you to create buttons um so I would recommend you stick with buttons because they're a little bit more straightforward links you're going to go um here and me to your links topic um you're going to go ahead and follow us to links and create those links there and then drag them over so again for Simplicity sake go ahead and stick with buttons they get to YouTube the same idea all right so now let's go ahead and save a draft of our page as we go to add some other elements like our classes and our posts to round out um our uh our content on our teacher page um maybe we want to go ahead and add classroom expectations we could add that as a file we could add that as a Content when you add files you want to be conscious of um accessibility both for folks joining with screen readers as well as folks who might be using translation services so it's always best wherever possible to add as much text directly to our page so I can go ahead and um drop all that information right here let's say I want to add my um classroom expectations I'm going to go ahead and pull those from my previous PDF and instead situate them directly on my page here let's save our draft again saving the latest changes if your school uses the accessibility um tool then we're going to go ahead and um resolve any accessibility issues before we publish but first let's go ahead and add our classes I'm going to come to my hamburger menu and down to classes now if you use Google Classroom you are a few steps away from being all done you can simply come to connect to your Google classroom and interface that onto your page just like we saw Mr care has done if you don't use Google Classroom you have the option to create your classes here directly with our Leo class feature you'll come and add a class again either importing from Google classroom or adding a new edlio class and now we're going to go ahead and add all of that class information go ahead and give this course in name and I can go ahead and if I have any periods I can go ahead and add those periods here um let's go in and edit um I'm going to go ahead if I have a second period I can add that here if I am um related to a department I'm going to go ahead and choose that here I can go ahead and drop my course description or maybe I just want simply add a syllabus I can go ahead and select that syllabus from my computer or cloud service and upload it here if I co- teach this course I can go ahead and select the other teachers so you all can divide the work of Maine maintaining your edlio classroom um without having you both have to um uh you know reinvent the wheel on both of your separate teacher pages when I'm done I'm going to go ahead and save my class and now in my class I'm going to want to go ahead and add assignments if I want to add assignment I can go ahead and drop the assignment title the assignment description want to go ahead and give folks the due date for this assignment so on and so forth if I want to go ahead and format add any hyperlinks um any additional information I can also add files if I have uh all of let's say my rubric information so on and so forth in a file I can also simply include it here in the assignment description all right when you're done you can go and now our classes are going to be automatically uploaded onto our teacher page let's check out posts posts remember is the blog like feature that's going to allow you to provide updates from exciting uh classroom activities field trips um you can send reminders uh you can share text links photos files and videos um so whatever you want to share with your uh teacher page Community you can go ahead and add as a post and remember your subscribers are going to go ahead and receive an email that you have a new post again I can create a variety of posts maybe I want to add a text post um a little bit more uh simplified because I just want to share Reflections on a great school year I'm going to be able to drop all the texts that I want to share with um my subscribers and the folks who visit my teacher page I want these posts to either go to my teacher page or to my class page so I can go ahead and indicate where I want this to post to and I can even make those current selections default I can also add a a photo post so maybe I want to share some of the photos from the swim team this year for the folks on swim that um are subscribers to my page for folks that want to head back and see my message again I can share photos from um field trips videos from uh awesome uh days in the classroom activities so on and so forth when I add a video or photo I'm simply going to go ahead and up upload that um uh from my device and I can go ahead and drop the text that I want to accompany that photo and indicate where I want this to post to um again I can create additional pages about the swim program I could even create a class about the swim program to share this information the choice is really up to you but how you want to organize your teacher page think back to those examples that we saw and the different of section menus that help folks um separate all of the information that they want to share now just like with our other media we're going to add a 2 to 8 word alt text description save save my uh post where I would like it to post and voila if I need to edit or delete any previous posts I'm going to be able to do that let's go ahead back to our pages and see the development of our teacher page so far now again we're working on our personal Pages we're going to head over to our personal page and we see uh we now have posts automatically as a page in our page section we had a draft of our main teacher page will go there and publish in just a moment we can also add additional pages to build that section menu so let's say I want to go ahead and share some resources I have 2 different ways to do that um maybe I want to link to another page and uh offer those resources to students um in a um as their own link so for example maybe I have a math in the world world club that I teach I'm going to go ahead and drop the school's form for folks to be able to go and sign up for the club I'm going to go ahead and save or maybe I want to share a link to um the you know principal study resources that I'm reminding students to go ahead and use now I'm taking folks outside my school website so always open as a new tab now maybe I want to share a group of links um together without making them each their own page well in that case I can come and create a grouping of links and this is where links um may become very useful for you I can go ahead and click links and start to add all those links here now I can add um my creative math resources all sorts of different options for different learning styles so on and so forth I can go ahead and build them all into my link topic I simply come to add link drop the title and drop the URL and voila I'm creating this set of links for folks to um explore all the resources that I want to provide to my students and my parents so if I go back to page management now I'm going to see links as another page in my page section I can also add videos a photo album or calendars so if I want to add videos or photo album I'm simply creating a video gallery or photo album where I can add those videos um there's some really awesome accessibility settings with your edlio CMS here to upload videos um and to make sure that those are accessible with closed captioning all automated the edlio CMS I can also create a photo album dropping all those photos um from my computer to share with the uh followers of my teacher page and again I can also so create a event on the calendar to share again as a a page in my teacher page section so a lot of really awesome features that we have there now let's go ahead and publish our page so that you can check out all the things um that we have created so I'm going to go ahead and publish draft now if you have the accessibility tool you're going to want to resolve these issues before you publish and in some cases you may not be able to publish your page unless those issues have been resolved so let's go ahead into our draft and check out our accessibility report it is loading down here I'm going to go ahead and see that we need to have some uh more descriptive alt text descriptions okay we can do that by simply clicking fix automatically with Ed Leo AI and now all the the hard work of that nitty-gritty making sure that my site is fully 88 compliant has been automated for us and I can go ahead and publish the summary of those alt text fixes now if you don't have the accessibility with edlio you can always come to uh preview your draft and work with the wave tool which is a free web accessibility evaluation tool if you want to learn more about accessibility um and dive deeper into the Snippets of best practices that I'm sharing um you can come to our accessibility study hall or always learn more um from our help center by clicking the edlio icon down in the bottom right uh corner of your dashboard searching for help or opening a message um because you'll go ahead and open a message with our AI agent Eddie who's going to go ahead and pull the best resources to help you from our help center all right so now let's go ahead and check out what our teacher page looks like we're going to go back to our staff directory remember that is the easiest way to find our teacher page I'm going to go ahead and click on my name and check out my polished teacher page so I've got my GIF in my hero image layout I've got my About Me section my section menu here I've got my silab this collapsed I want to uncaps that I can then read the entire syllabus and I can even click the file name which takes me to uh download print review that syllabus in a separate window now remember any um content block not just any type of page block not just a file block can be collapsed to go ahead and make your page easy to scan maybe we want to scan our classroom expectations for example to make our page even more scannable here we've got our stacked um photos we've got our supply list if I go ahead and click on this supply list I'm going to see all the supplies for my classroom this school year and parents are going to able to easily um apply all of those supplies to their cart with 1 Click now depending on your geographic location you might have up to 8 options including Walmart and in a in addition to the options you see here uh Amazon Target so on and so forth now just a quick note you may notice that these are all brand name supplies that is simply a option in teacher list if you click to have all the supplies be the same it is going to choose the most well-known brand if you do not click that option it is going to pull um usually more generic brands um and more affordable uh economic brands for families now finishing out we have all of our classes here if I go ahead and click on my classes I'm going to see my assignments my class description so on and so forth and then I have my posts along with my buttons and that is our teacher page now to round out our session here today I want to show you how you can can see back in your dashboard who uh has subscribed to your teacher page you are going to be able to go to your hamburger menu to mass communication and down to contact lists now here under contact list you're going to be able to go ahead and see um how many subscribers you have to your personal page AKA your teacher page and to any of your classes remember I subscribed to Mr Keller's teacher page so he's got 1 contact here you can come and um click on that contact list and see who that person is and if you don't want to wait for your parents to sign up in order to be able to send them a newsletter which is the very last feature I'm going to show you here you can just add all your parents contact information in bulk simply downloading the CSV template dropping your parents' names and emails there saving that on your computer and then coming and uploading that here now you've got a checklist and you can go ahead um and they will receive updates when you post new things to your teacher page and you can send them a newsletter you can come to mass communication and newsletters choose between different newsletter layouts here and in these news that are layouts I'm going to go ahead and show you your events and news layout because this can give you a really nice balance to share classroom level information with schoolwide information with your families let me show you what I mean so in this newsletter we have 4 text boxes where I can go ahead and share information relevant to my classes parents and schools I can go ahead and drop different um uh text blurbs so on and so forth pretty simple um uh you know text formatting here right I can add a um hyperlink bold um I can add a table I can't add particular images if I want an image in my newsletter I'm going to want to go to change layout and choose 1 of the these layouts with a dark gray box that's going to indicate um that I'm able to add an image so 1 large image 2 side-by-side images so on and so forth but again the benefit to this events and news is I can um pull calendar events from the school calendar as well as news from the school website sharing a mix of classroom content with school content once I've added all of that here I can keep of course adding lots more information I can come and preview my newsletter but it looks like on a phone versus on a computer I can go return to my message and get ready to send this out to my family by scrolling down clicking continue now um unless you our uh sending your newsletters on behalf of the schools you will only be able to send the newsletter as yourself but that's exactly what we want to do so I'm going to click my name um add my contact list here your contact list is going to simply be your name because folks have subscribed to your teacher page at a brief subject and then go ahead and send my newsletter now or later if I want my newsletter to have a URL maybe I want to make a page where I link all my past newsletters um for um you know future purposes um lots of different things we can do when our newsletter is a URL I can share it uh via bit.ly the choices are really endless we can go ahead and click that here and you'll go ahead and send your newsletter with that we have gone ahead and covered all of our teacher features as you can see if you've sent newsletters you're going to be able to come and see the status read the report see who received your email your newsletter and always review that newsletter on the web if you've given it a URL with that I want to thank you for
