Edlio's School News App is built for parents to easily catch up on news, view calendars and receive push notifications on their iPhone or Android. In this webinar, we give a quick tour of the app's interface.

Hi everyone, welcome to our my Edlio webinar today. We're going to be demoing for you all the school news application. The school news app is an activity feed for consuming alerts, news, and events. Some of our other tools might be more personalized or interactive or a straightforward voice call or straightforward text message. The school news app is almost kind of like a Facebook feed for news for your schools and districts. The benefit of the school news app versus some branded applications for each of your schools is that it's one application for all of your schools. So say for example you have a child who attends an elementary school in a district, but you have an older child that attends that middle school or high school in your district. Instead of having to download multiple applications for each of their schools, the school news app can actually manage all of them for you in one application, and you can add many schools within one application. It's available on both IOS and Android, and you can also add or remove schools from the app at any time. So when your child graduates from the middle school and moves on to high school or graduates from high school and goes on to college, you can remove it at any time just from with within the single application. And as an admin, if you manage your school's websites, you can add schools and remove them in your in your management as well. Messages that are sent by the school through app alerts appear in the app as alerts versus news and events. So, all the school's events appear in the app. If you push an event from your admin website to the school news app it'll show up as an event, if you push a news event or a news article, it can also filter that way. And you can also send straightforward push notifications with those app alerts as well. Password protected news categories and password protected event categories are hidden from the application. So if you're an administrator who has some events or categories or news articles that are password protected from the public, that'll be hidden to a general user on the school news app. Parents can enable notifications to receive push notifications or disable them depending on their usage preferences. So let's say for example we want to look at it if you were a parent, this is what your news feed would look like. And all of the content inside this particular view is going to be news that you push from inside your news category within your CMS admin website. I actually have a demo CMS pulled up that we will show you how as an admin you can do that, but this example right here would correspond on your website to a news article. And you can see here what it would look like if, for example, your child or your children attended multiple different schools within a district or even most school districts. You can just add them and they show independently inside the newsfeed. So say one child is at Cerrato high school but another child is in La Porte Independent school district, they show independent from one another. Same goes for events. You can see here some of these events right here with this icon are for La Porte Independent school district and they show up with that school's individual icon, but other schools show up with their school's individual icons. And then over in this view is where you can get push notifications. And that's where they will filter if you push them from the school's CMS. You can manage schools by going into the schools tab, going to settings, and then you can manage them this way, or add them back. So we can also spend some time talking about the behavior of the of the application. If someone doesn't have their notifications enabled at all or on whatever device they're using, they'll still get alerts over here inside the application once it's open, but they won't get any push notifications on their phone. If you have an Android user, they won't receive notifications if the application is open. If you have notifications enabled as a parent, if the app is closed you'll get a push notification. Tapping it will open the app. If the app is open you won't get a push notification. If the app is open when an app alert is sent, so say for example you have the application open right now and someone were to send an app alert right then, you'll see the new alert appear if you're looking at the alerts tab. If you're looking at a different tab you'll see the push over here, but you won't see it once it's opened. You won't see it when the tab is opened in events. So let's say for example you're viewing this as an admin and you want to figure out how you can send notifications from the admin site to your users. So you'd start in your dashboard, and head over to news and alerts, and you'd add a new news event. And you'd make one as normal. And then you can also select app alerts as well, and send that at the same time. So this event would then populate on your website, but then also inside your application. And then once a user were to click on that alert, it would take them to the website to view that article or that event that you've posted. However, you don't have to do this if you would prefer not to create a if you would prefer not to create an entire news article for this. You can just send an app alert on its own. And it would also just show up within the app in the alerts feed instead of in the news feed as well because there's not a news event attached to it. So you have a couple of different ways that you can enable that. With events, if you were to go into your calendar and select making a new event, creating one of these manually would also populate this into the events feed within your admin site and also within your app.
