Thanks for joining today's webinar on News & Alerts and Homepage Widgets. Both features are great ways to share important announcements on your website. If you have any questions feel free to ask them in the chat box since we do have a tech support representative here to answer your questions. As usual this webinar is being recorded and will be uploaded to our Help Center [Clicking] So let's go ahead and get started. I'm logging in as a web administrator. And first I wanna go over News & Alerts. You can navigate to News & Alerts by clicking into "Announce" "News & Alerts." You can do this by clicking directly on the "Announce" module from the dashboard or you can use our hamburger dropdown menu Ok, so let's go ahead and add a news story. So add news, you can select one or more categories for the story to be shown. I wanna really quickly show you, you have three options below. "Content," using your formatting options. "Link to a file," so like for those of you who have a flyer with all the details, you can drag and drop that file here. "Link to a Page" that you can link to an external site or a page within your site. So when users click on the headline, they'll be redirected to that URL. Keep in mind that you can only use one of these three options at a time. So I'm gonna create content. Let's type in our headline. [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] And then a short summary like one or two sentences. It doesn't have to be too lenghty [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] I'm gonna type in my full story. [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] And if you have news from an outside source, you can list and link your source here. I'm also going to upload a feature photo. And be sure to add your alternate text by clicking on that little alt box that says that alt box and add your brief photo description You have two delivery options. You can push this out now or schedule it for a specific date and time. Let's go ahead and post it now. [Silence] Ok great, so my news story is published and I want to create a Homepage Alert. For those who are unfamiliar with the Homepage Alert, it's basically a pop-up notification that displays to people who visit the homepage of your website and it forces them to either click on "Okay" or "Read Full Story," before they can move on. And by default this is set to expire in 24 hours, but you can choose to increase or decrease that expiring time. And by the way, that doesn't expire the article, just the Homepage Alert. [Silence] So let's refresh the homepage, to see the changes reflected. [Silence] [Silence] And as you can see on this Homepage Alert, You can see the "Don't Show Again" "Okay" and "Read Full Story." "Read Full Story" will take your users to the landing page, where they can see the full article and details and click on the image and so forth. Now if they were to click on "Don't Show Again," [Pause] [Pause] while they browse the site they will still see it, under your News and Announcements. So it won't be easy for them to get away with not seeing it. And if you are a district , if you have not set this option up on on the district site, you have the option to push News & Alerts out to your schools. so in the event there's an emergency or some important update if you would like for this to be set up on your district site, please contact tech support and submit your case. And we will be more than happy to get that set up for you. [Pause] So I want to talk about also disabling your news and also on this page, you do have the option, just to turn off that Homepage Alert or you can edit it if you want it to go longer, you can just turn it off from here. You can also, when you go into News & Alerts you can also hover over that news story and make that announcement here. so as I've mentioned before if you wannna disable your news... instead of deleting the news story altogether, you can disable it and it'll just keep it archived in the disabled news section right here. So when you decide to come back, make a few updates and repost it, you can basically edit the story and enable it. It'll show up as a recent news post. This comes in handy for recurring events such as back to school, homecoming, annual bake sales and so forth. Now let's talk about the Homepage Widgets. This is found under Page Management and Homepage Widgets. So this is an option to either get your users to subscribe to a list more specifically like a contact list or redirect them to a form that you've created or a page or maybe even an external site. You can place the widget wherever you want on your homepage. The placement of the widget on the public site will depend on the viewer's screen size, but I'm going to start with the Form Widget. The Form Widget is good for collecting contact information for a certain list. So, let me give my Form Widget a title [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] Choose your required fields. [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] Ok And for the contact list you can use an existing contact list or create a new one. To create a new one, you can just type the title of the contact list in this box here or you can go ahead and choose an existing contact list. I'm going to select my list and save changes. So let's see what that looks like on the homepage. [Silence] [Silence] [Silence] And here we have our Homepage Widget displayed here. I'm going to go ahead and subscribe. [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] [Typing] Now back on the admin site if we go to our contact list, that list will populate. [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] You can delete that widget, just using the trash icon. [Clicking] Now, let's say you have a more robust form that you've built using our form feature and by the way we have a great webinar on creating forms as well as Forms with Payments in the Help Center. And payments is an add-on feature, and we do currently have two payment solutions, our latests being Edlio Pay. Which for that the basic platform is free. So for more information please contact your client success specialist And I'm just gonna go back to the Button Widget. So let me put my Button Widget here. And what this does is it directs your users to any inside page or form that you've created or any external site. [Clicking] So for external sites, we recommend that you have the link open as a new tab just so that your users don't loose your homepage. I have a form here that I want to direct my users to. So I'm just going to copy... [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] [Clicking] Save my changes... [Clicking] And then let's refresh our homepage... [Clicking] And when we click on that, users are directed to the form that I've created. And you can essentially do this for any inside page, feature page or external site.
