In this webinar, we show you how to use your Edlio Website to show off your seniors' accomplishments. Features demoed in this webinar include Homepage Alerts, Photo Shuffles and more.

So this is what an administrator should be able to see when they are working with their Edlio website and I will take a moment to highlight a couple of items in the top dashboard here. So this webinar is going to be recorded and if you miss something or have to step out don't worry about that because we will post it also on our help center and if you ever need anything or have any questions about managing your Edlio website, you can come and navigate over to help portion of the the dashboard and you'll notice two things here-- a link that directly opens up into our Edlio Help Center where the webinars are posted after we record them and then contacting Edlio support. So if you need something that you're not able to find an answer to through the help center, through talking to your Client Success Specialist-- you can go ahead and pop over into Contact Edlio Support. There are other links and guides to how to get some answers to some of our most frequently asked questions and then down here you'll notice just a quick section for if you still need some assistance you can contact our Edlio support team by either giving them a call or opening up a case. Now I don't have this option because this is a demo website that we use for illustrating some of our webinars, like I'm doing today, but you will see an actual button to click to open up a new case in your live website. So I just wanted to note that because we do want to be here and be available for questions and concerns during this really uncertain time so if you do find yourself in a position where you're not sure how to answer a question that your staff have, a question you have, feel free to check those two places out and we'd be happy to help. Let me go ahead and dive into our Senior Highlights options. So there are a couple of things that you can do to create a really great environment on your website to highlight all of the great accomplishments of your seniors. I'm going to start by actually going into Pages and here I have my categories. Categories are the top level of organization for pages and each school-- each Edlio website-- has six categories. They can be renamed. They don't have to be this default option here but underneath the categories are going to be your sections and you have unlimited sections underneath your categories and that will be really important because you can make as many sections for your seniors, as many sections of content for your school as you need to. Underneath sections are going to be your pages and you also have unlimited pages and so that will also be important. You can have as many pages in a section as you want and you can have as many sections in a category as you want. Let me go ahead and go back here. I'm going to go ahead and create a new section and I'm going to call it Seniors 2020 Highlights [typing] [typing] and this is where I can actually go in and add pages to my sections and what I'm going to do here is show you how you can make an individual bio page for your seniors. Now I understand that some schools just have too many seniors for this to be viable but if you are at a smaller school or if your teachers even want to get involved with this, this is a great option for highlighting your seniors is making Pages for each of them to highlight their accomplishments and have a little virtual bio-- almost like having a virtual yearbook on your website. I'm going to go ahead and make a new page and click blank page. I actually have some sample biographies here that I will use to demonstrate this so in the sample biography the senior highlights name is... [typing] [typing] So I'm going to go ahead and give her-- give the page as title. All pages have to be given a title. You will not be able to save your page unless it has a title and I'm going to go ahead and add content and then add a sample biography I found for Jenna's Senior 2020 Highlight and I'm going to go ahead and clear the formatting actually. This button right here is the clear formatting button. When you're copying and pasting content from one browser or document into your Edlio website, it's always a good idea to clear the formatting so that the text looks consistent throughout the page. Go I'm going to go ahead and highlight that and then I can continue to format this page for Jenna in a number of different ways. I can add more content here. I can add photos of her. I can add other files if this is what I need to do, so there are options for this. I can add photos here that rotate through like a shuffle. I can add photos that stack one on top of one another so I can have a photo album just for her in this page. I can also make an inline image for her so let's go ahead and do that really quickly. I actually have some photos downloaded as well from a stock for an example. It's reminding me that I need to put alternative text here which is this a short description of each image for screen readers to read to folks with visual impairments or blindness and you'll notice that this picture is actually quite large so I can resize it and I can make it an inline image. Let's see, I'm going to go ahead and put this above her text right here. Let me put that over here. Alright, so I can make this inline with the text about her biography. Oh! My image disappeared. Let me insert that again and I'm going to put it actually on this side this time. I think it looks better there. And again it's really large. I'm going to go ahead and resize that and now I have a beautiful inline image of my senior. Now let's go ahead and look at what that looks like on my website. This is what it looks like right now because there are no other pages in my Seniors 2020 section. Let me show you what would happen if you were to do this for more than one senior. I'm going to go ahead and make another new page. Add some content to it again-- another stock biography. I'm going to clear my formatting, upload an image of him. Let's see. I'm going to go ahead and go with this picture which is actually from the movie High School Musical. It was one of the better pictures I was able to find [typing] to demonstrate this and again really large image but not a problem-- we can just easily resize it with the tools we have inside the page editor and make it an inline image. Now I'm going to go ahead and make sure that my layout is going to display my section menu. You have the option within a page to either display the section menu which is a list of all of the pages within the section on the right side, left side, or actually not at all, but in this case I actually do want it to be showing up so I'm going to go ahead and make it on the right hand side. Publish it and then let's go ahead and see what that looks like. So here I have an option to click between my seniors and in this way you can create almost kind of like a virtual yearbook for your seniors but now what we want to do is make sure that people who visit my home page can see this because right now if we go to my homepage all we're really seeing is just the normal stuff from a homepage-- not really anything specific to the seniors at this point. So let's go ahead and go back to my dashboard and I'm going to go to Announce, News and Alerts. So what we can do here is actually make an announcement that we have created some pictures and and biographies of our seniors. So what we're going to want to do is create this new story and we can link it to the page that we made of our seniors. So I'm going to go back to the page. I'm going to search for my seniors. I'm going to grab this public link right here and just copy it and then go back to my news and alerts. Give it a headline. Maybe I want to give it an extra picture. Here's another reminder that I need to give it some alternative text. I'm going to go ahead and post this right now actually. I'm going to go ahead and maybe I want to make a homepage alert for this and if I have my social media connected through Twitter or Facebook you can tweet this or post this to your Facebook as well. I don't have that hooked up, again, because this is a demo website but for your purposes if you do have this set up, you can go ahead and connect those. So let's go ahead and see what this looks like. So if someone were to visit my website they can get a highlight popping up to let them know to read my story about my seniors and they'll get taken to this section of my senior highlights. They visit my website and they decide to scroll, they'll see this in my News and Announcements section as well with the picture that I've chosen and they can click on this and it'll take them directly to the section. Now let's say that you have a couple of other announcements that you've posted to the news and alerts section maybe about your graduation, maybe about online learning but you want to make sure that the the seniors are always highlighted. Just make sure that they are always in the section of news for the green homepage icon to be highlighted. If I drag this to the top, this is now moved to the top three news articles which means that it will be on the homepage. So if you want to make sure that your Senior story is always on the homepage, make sure that it is dragged and dropped to be in the home page as you add more stories. Now we can go ahead and move to a couple of other options for you to highlight your seniors. So you could actually also add this as a button on your homepage. I'm going to go ahead and choose a button widget and drop it right here. Go ahead and copy this link again. When you go to your homepage another button will pop up giving a user the option to click on this and be redirected to your Senior 2020 Highlights. Another great option for highlighting your seniors is to make a photo album for them and you could link this inside the pages that you've created. So let's go back to our pages, go into our seniors. I'm going to make a new page but I'm actually going to link this now to a photo album. You can link feature Pages within your page sections. So I'm going to make a new album and I'm going to call it Seniors 2020. I'm going to upload some pictures here, do a couple more of some of these other pictures and I'm going to see my pictures. Now I do need to give it some alternative text. [typing] [typing] [typing] [typing] Great! So now I'm going to go ahead and go back to my section and there's my photo album. Now we can just do a quick refresh and here's my photo album of my Seniors. So this would be another great option for inserting pictures that you have created maybe over the year, over all of their school years-- a great way to display you know, their memories from the school year and have it be accessible in one place for them so that they can view them as part of the whole class. The last thing that I'll highlight is another great option for if your website has a spotlight message or a photo shuffle. Let me go ahead and notice the spotlight message. If your website has this, you can edit it and change out the text and the pictures in it. So if you have a spotlight message, one great way to utilize this during the time may be picking a senior each day [typing] and creating their bio. I am going to get rid of this picture and upload a different one for her and save it. So on my homepage-- hit refresh-- when a visitor comes to my homepage they'll see my senior of the day spotlighted right at the top of my website. If they'd like to read more, it'll take them to this page with her picture on it. So that's a great option if your website has a spotlight message. If you're not sure if their website has the spotlight message feel free to reach out to the technical support team or your client success specialist and they can let you know if that's possible on your website and if not how to get one. So the last thing that I will mention is if your website has a Photo Shuffle at the top-- most of our Edlio websites do because pictures are a great way to make sure website look fresh and a really great way to highlight parts of your school community. So when you go down to Media and Shuffles, you should find your Shuffle for your home page. Some websites with Edlio have more than one shuffle. Almost always your home page one will be noted by its name. So in this case we do see here that we have a homepage main shuffle. I'm going to go ahead and go in put a couple of other pictures in for my seniors. Once again, got to give her alt text. What I can do to also further highlight her is add a caption about her. [typing] [typing] I'm going to go ahead and see what that looks like. And that will be highlighted wherever your homepage main picture is, so on this website I do think it's going to be I'm going to go ahead and find where the homepage is. So the shuffle will show up wherever your homepage main shuffle is and it'll have the caption that you've given her and you can add as many of those pictures as you would like inside the shuffle so that you can highlight as many seniors as you want, maybe all of them, maybe doing a senior of the day option and you can change that out whenever you'd like and also even remove some of the other pictures inside the shuffle to just make it for seniors. That concludes some of the options for highlighting your seniors on your Edlio website.
