Hello, and welcome to MyEdlio Live Webinar on Teacher Pages for the New School Year. Thank you so much for joining us today, my name is Misty Rosenberg and assisting us today in the live chat is Matus from Technical Support. I'm very excited to show you some of the new features that we have going for our Teacher Pages this year, so let's just talk real quickly about how you can ask questions submit your questions through the Q&A panel, and throughout the webinar we will answer as many as we can throughout and at the end, if we don't get your question we will follow up following the webinar We are Edlio, and our mission is to make the lives of educators easier. As a former educator I can truly attest to the ease and practicality of our features and services, to today we're focusing on teacher pages specifically how essential they are as we approach this fall school start with its unknowns about classes on whether or not they will be held in person or virtually. So today we'll cover the first bullet how to create pages, next the best practices for sharing content on teacher pages and we have some exciting new Google Classroom Integrations to show you and how to use Pages specifically for class material. So now we're going to hop into the CMS and see how it works, so again use the Q&A panel to get your questions answered Just one moment as I switch over to our admin site okay so as you can see this is our dashboard this is the admin side where actually this is what your teachers would see, this is the teacher login view. Your website is where parents go for everything related to their students' school, obviously they look for upcoming events the latest news, they can scope out the teacher, and start getting on track to assist their students in the learning process. The teacher page is a crucial part of the scenario especially with some schools starting at the beginning of school being fully or partially remote. Having a central hub or location for that teacher's classes helps parents to feel secure and know that their child's education is at the forefront. This reassurance is priceless during this time of quarantine station So today, we're going to walk you through the process of setting up a teacher page from scratch and showing you what the final product will look like. Also just a side note, this is a webinar that will be up on the website by tomorrow as a recording, and the link to that recording can be sent to teachers who might appreciate some assistance in a couple different scenarios maybe there are teachers setting up their Pages for the first time or those might have outdated material on their pages; however, our newest Google Classroom Integrations are useful to everyone so as you listen just jot down some names or some notes of those who might benefit from the recording tomorrow. So here I'm logged in as a teacher and you notice that my dashboard has fewer modules than that of a web admin the typical web admin you would see a longer hamburger menu. If the teacher is only out of the user management as a teacher without any editing access, that teacher would go to Pages under your hamburger menu Page Management, over to Pages, and if that teacher was not given editing access any other Category Pages it was so directly to their Personal Pages, so you wouldn't see the two different tabs here so, for example, one teacher might be also a coach that's assisting with athletic section, then he or she would click on the Category Pages and see that access was given so this particular teacher is given access to Journalism, so that's why when you click on Pages, you see both Personal and Category and, under Clubs & Activities, can see that a lot of these sections are greyed-off but Journalism and Yearbook, which are what that teacher has editing access to are accessible, but today we're going to focus on that teacher's Personal Pages and now you can see all of the pages that this particular teacher has created stop this is Misty Flowers, a teacher who teaches three courses and I want to show you the live site of kind of what the the final goal would be something obviously everyone site looks different at this point, we would click on Misty Flowers and this is a way to see that teacher's live site. So this teacher, she teaches three courses English II, Journalism 101, and Practical Writing, but she also has this welcome landing page that connects everything together. Today we're going walk through creating a Journalism 101 page within the same section so that it will populate in the section menu on her main welcome to so this is where a teacher introduces him or herself, this the face to the class and to the particular classes that this teacher teaches, and this is a place where a true live person can be connected to the parents where they can see you know what things they might be looking for when they come to this page, you find out a little bit about how long the teacher has been teaching there, a bio, but then also some kind of steps to give directions for what's next so that they don't stay here on this page, what to do if they have questions if that's if you would like to send that teacher and email you can click on send email and you can have form-based emailing set up very easily. So a place where the teacher can introduce him or herself. There are a few locations for finding teacher pages: one of them is when you have a staff directory they can click on that staff member's name and find and be directed immediately to that page. Another location sometimes schools or districts will have a department page that's linked under the dropdown menu, for example we'll click on Departments and Fine Arts so maybe they start from the Department view, and then they can go to staff and that's another way that visitors to that site can find a teacher a teacher's Personal Pages. Here's another example actually has a photo stream setup, the section menu can be on the right or the left and I'll show you how to organize your layout so let's go back to the admin site. Our clients, the way that they talk about our teacher pages, they say it's easy for them to set it up yet they're capable of reflecting a wide variety of facets about teachers' content and specializations, so it's easy to set up but there's a lot you can do with it so let's get started. Let's talk about how easy it is to start a page from scratch so this is the section and this is the way the admin page looks to the live page that I was just showing you and this is my landing page, but what we want to do we want to populate a Journalism 101 page that will show up section menu and be connected to this landing page so the first thing that we do, obviously you go to Page Management > Pages, as I just showed you, and your Personal Pages first, so when your teachers create a new class, they'll click "Add Page" on the blue button and we then we have some choices here we can add a blank page is what we are going to do, another option is to link to another page with you might have created elsewhere or that page also might be populated in a different section in your Edlio website. Another type of page that can be added here is which we've already added a page that is just for videos, a photo album page for class photos, calendar which we've already added, and a links page. So, for this Journalism page we're going to add a Blank Page And we need to give it a title first so as soon as I created that title it showed up right here and as you were working on this you can always "Save Draft" if you're not comfortable publishing it yet and before you publish you will go to actions to be able to see, we always want to see what it's going to look like live so you can "Preview Draft" and so far we've just created the title but you can see how the section menu is starting to populate. You can also see what it would look like on a different device. Ok, in so for this page the first thing we want to do is add a header that we've already created so just to show you that again this is how you add contact you click on the add drop down menu, you have some choices here you can add content with this text and inline images lots of different things that you can add in a Content box, you can add photos which is specifically a way to add a series of photos maybe as a photo album, we'll do that in just a moment and you can add files which would be a way to add for example, a PDF syllabus, which you can show as a link where you can embed as a scrollable document, as well, so for this, we're going to add content, and right up here you see these three little dots we're going to click there so we can add an inline image and then click on this little arrow inside of the box and we're going to add our title page cuz we have accessibility setup on this site we will add "alt text" which means that someone who has a visual disability will be able to hover over this photo and receive a little message about what they're seeing there and then we click save and then you can see when you preview that we now I have a header showing up on our page The next thing that we're going to do here is we're going to connect a Google Classroom  Journalism page to our home Landing page, so a little bit about Google Classroom so a lot of times you know students have a Google Classroom account and the only way that the parent has access to see the assignments is by using that student's email address by logging in as that student. The way that Edlio integrates Google Classroom into the page is that a parent would be able to subscribe to that page and receive notifications and a daily digest about what assignments were posted on Google Classroom that day for that particular student. I want to show you just a little bit about what that looks like. your teachers, once they create their Google Classroom page, I'm going to show you how to connect it to that landing page for that particular teacher, so we're going to classes so you go over to your hamburger menu and scroll down to classes, and because the web admin of this site has already set up in settings so that Google Classroom could be integrated, now I as a teacher and able to add my personal classes so you need to make sure that as a web admin that you are setting up from your end so that your teachers can use Google classroom, and I can show you a little bit about that after I log out of my teacher account. So for now, let's look at the teacher's perspective so we choose "Yes" import from Google Classroom and now this automatically shows all of the Google Classes that I have connected to that account so we're going to select Journalism 101, and then we will connect and add this class so now you can see the classes that I have connected to myself are English II and Journalism 101 so web administrators, another tip, right here you can see where it says my term is Summer 2020 because we're switching to the fall soon, the fall term will switch but soon it will say Fall 2020 but for you who want your teachers to be working on their teacher pages right now, you might need to make sure that your term is set appropriately for the right dates or that there's an overlap between terms so that your term doesn't start you know August 14th and then your teachers aren't able to create their Pages within that term, so that's something you need to check on. A parent or or student, let me show you back over here, a parent or student you know when they go to your site, so let's now refresh because now we will see Journalism 101 showing up on this teacher page Previously I only had one Google Classroom, so now very easily I was able to attach Journalism 101, for example, my students in English II First Period. Can go to this page and their parents can click on this link and they will go to this English II Google Classroom page, this is a place where they can see all of the assignments, which is great because they didn't need a special access to login, they can also subscribe by email to this specific page "Assignments", and if they subscribe by email this is an example of an email that they would receive every evening from Edlio, so this email consolidates all the assignments together into one email. If for example, there are other students and different grades within the same district, the email would consolidate all of the assignments together, so that's a wonderful feature for parents to be able to have. Parents can also choose "Open Google Classroom" and have their student logged in to be able to go straight there for some you know specific quiz that maybe they need to take Obviously, this will go to mine so you'll only see the teacher end of it so a very great section for them. If, teachers, if you would like your description for that class to show up on this page that's something that you need to do on the Google Classroom side because the Google Classroom description overrides the Edlio course description that would show up on that page so you would go in here to English II First Period, and this is where you would enter your class description that would then feed over to showing up on this page, so the different types of posts (assignments) in Google Classroom that will show up on the Edlio account, the Edlio teacher page are: Assignment, Quiz assignment, and Question so those three, whenever you post one of those, you would head back over to your teacher page and go to classes instead of, I apologize, not the teacher page, over to classes It says here "Updates are pulled from Google Classrom daily" If you would like that assignment to show up immediately you would just click "Update Now" and that assignment you would see how the number of assignments at would change at that point. So let's return to our English II page. The final aspect that I want to talk about with teacher pages, so let's go back to my live page, are "Posts" Again, you know, as we're creating our Journalism 101 page here You have your section menu here off to the side you have so many things that you can do here by adding photos which would be something like this something that you can put in your section menu we're going to give it a little title for our alt text you use these six little dots here to drag it into a different location, in here you can add content I wanted to show you how to add photos because you know you can do it a great photo album here since it's journalism you know students are taking lots of photos. We're just going to quickly add alt text and I'll go back and do a much better job of that when we're not pressed for time but I really want you to see what the photo album will look like once it's published. so once you have your photos and you have a gear icon here and this will show you how you would like to lay out your photos You can rotate them or stack them, we're going to rotate them and we will go to Preview Draft and see what our page is looking like. So much you can do with these pages an automatic slideshow going on with your photos. Okay so once we publish our Journalism 101 page and we continue back to our landing page before that we want to combine all of our classes together so we're going to drag Journalism up to being up there and then let's go to see what our final product looks like, so now Ms. Flowers has a Journalism 101 Class attached to her page. And you go here to go to the class page where maybe I can keep resources You click here under "Classes" to go to the Google Classroom page you can subscribe and receive all of the notifications about assignments or journalism class. The last thing I'm going to show you is how to do posts on your page, again other details you want to put into your section menu, you just go to the side and this is where you also can add things like your syllabus and then it will show up in the side menu for very easy access right there, so again the last thing I'll show you as how to do Posts So, if you scroll down I'm in this section here is where the post will be added so if you go to your hamburger menu and you scroll to Posts, there are a variety of different posts that you can use to add content, you can add a text just a post with regular text in it, content. A link which I added a link to the "To Kill A Mockingbird" website. You can add a file, such as a syllabus that would show up as a post, a video. I'll show you what these look like in just a moment, and a photo. You have lots of different options for what you can do Then when you go to your teacher page,  these are what posts look like. This is your link to click on it with immediate direct to the page. You can "like it" (with the apple) and the syllabus is there, the video is already showing on the screen I'm just to autoplay, and just a photo here that lets everyone know that this is the book that everyone voted for, and to look for detail. So, a lot here that's that is possible with the teacher page that you can do you. Any questions, please pop them into the chat. I want to show you one last thing.
