Hi everyone! Thanks for joining us today for our webinar we're going to be covering accessibility so right here I want to show you our help center first so you can be sure to follow up here everything that we're going to be talking about will be found in our help center if you come to help articles and scroll all the way down we have our accessibility here this is going to give you a great overview of all of the accessibility tools that are built right into your Edlio website so let's go ahead and get started when you log into your admin here the first thing that you're going to want to do is come to your hamburger menu come to site management and settings I will come down to accessibility and this here is going to be your first step to ensuring that your website is ADA friendly. By checking this accessibility box here is going to enable your ADA settings which will prompt you to add alternative text to your images and your videos and then if you need to send out any additional information to your teachers or any other website administrators we actually have an email template here that you can go ahead and send out to help ensure that everyone is following the same ADA guidelines. So now that we have our accessibility checked let's go ahead and I will show you exactly where you will find some of these prompts so if we comer over to page management and pages and we're going to add a new page with some images so you can see exactly what we're talking about here so let's just go ahead and create a new page within our section here and let's give this a title and then we can go ahead and add some of our content and then if we come here we can add an image here so we can just drag and drop and now you see here we have our prompt to add that alternative text so if you don't add the alternative text the image will not be shown on the live site because it is not accessible so we'll just click alt and we'll add our alternative text just a quick description of what that image is, click save, and you can see now our warning has gone away so we've added that all text and we're good to go there so if we want to ensure that everything on this page is ADA-friendly we also have a once you save that draft, you can actually come up here come to actions and preview draft not only are you going to be able to preview what this page looks like before you publish it you actually have this wave tool here built right in so you can scan the page to make sure that everything on your page is accessible so we'll click on the wave tool and you'll see here any errors that we may have so when we come back and we close out of our draft we can continue editing it's always a good thing to remember when you're using any of your headings here to always go in order so you don't want to have some really large headings and some really small and some smaller heading out of order because that is what helps screen readers identify the different sections that are on the page additionally we do have formatting options for colors so here you're going to see some standard colors that we have you can also come in here and choose any color so if we were to pick this lime green you can see that it makes it a little difficult for us to see on this page so this will give us some contrast errors when we scan our page it's always a good idea to keep your font color either just plain black or any of these that we have currently set for you here because these are are going to give you highest amount of contrast on the white background of your page I will go ahead and click publish and if we want to see what our page looks like we can click here you can see her we have a nice amount of contrast with the with the black text and then we added that alternative text to our image so now we're image is showing on our page another good thing to remember is to add closed captioning on any videos that you have that have audio to them so when you come to your videos and audio anything that's uploaded here we'll go ahead and click into any of our videos we're going to click edit and you'll see when you upload a video that you have here if it has sound it's going to auto-generate through A.I., the closed captioning. We recommend coming in and editing that so it's going to be correct because sometimes there can be a few errors here and there. Let's see if this one has some sound for us so you can see here it's always a good idea to to review those closed captions again because sometimes they are not completely accurate so you want to make sure that all of the text is correct so when it is uploaded to your live site everything is easy to read and it makes sense I'm going to hop back over here to our help center and you can see that we have tips for teachers and website administrators so this is also a great article to share with your staff when you're starting the new school year so you can make sure that everyone's pages-- personal pages, teacher pages are all ADA-Compliant. You can see here the color, text, links, page titles all of this good stuff is going help you maintain that highest level of accessibility on your pages so let's come back and we'll do a quick review so when we come Site Management and Settings we come to accessibility make sure that you have this checkbox selected and saved when we come to our pages we want to make sure that our images have that alternative text we've got our heading here and then we can add some placeholder text and remember if you change your font color be sure to use one that has the highest level of contrast if you're not going to be using black so go ahead and again show you what it looks like when we have that really bright green and how it can be a little difficult to see it with the white background you can see here it's pretty bright and not going to give us the best results when we scanned the page it makes it a little difficult to read so we want to again make sure that when we come to our preview and we scan our page with WAVE you're going to see here that we have we've been flagged for a contrast error so be sure to check this before you publish your pages just to make sure that everything is going to be accessible. You can see that we made this font the header size two, so our main pager is head or size one so if we click over here you can see here we're getting these contrasts errors flagged because this font is not it does not have a high enough amount of contrast so let's come back and change that We'll scan it with the WAVE tool again and you can see now we no longer have that contrast error showing we need to remember to add that alternative text to our images I'm going to show you what it looks like when I don't have that alternative text you can see here it gives me this error so it's not going to allow me to save this page with this image because there is no alternative text you can see now that our error has gone away, we'll click publish and you can see here everything is good to go we have our nice dark heading, our images that have alternative text so everything on this page is going to be showing that's going to be our high-level overview of accessibility and the easiest way to ensure that you and everyone on your team is all set up with the basics of accessibility rules again when we come here you got a lot of in-depth information from just high-level overviews to what we talk about our texts and our page titles again color, links, and images alternative text.
