alright everybody I think we are ready to get started welcome to today's wedding are I'd say we'll be talkin about SEO search engine optimization friendly URLs and how you can use n e l e o c m s will go over some best practices of tips and tricks I was going to be a fun one today I'm very excited y'all were able to join us now the tools will be looking at are all available at the website admins in your leoci so we're going to take some time to jump into cmsc how to edit your URLs help boost your scoi which is great for assisting with communication with your school community and Beyond helping solidify marketing strategies and marketing preferences in general. the course of the webinar will make sure to have your client success specialist follow up with you afterwards okay spell search engine optimization SEO what is it let's go straight to Wikipedia a search engine optimization is the process of improving the quality and quantity of website traffic to a website or a web page from search engines that SEO Target unpaid traffic rather than direct or page this is all about increasing that organic traffic to your website and the goal is to increase traffic to your site and increase your ranking in search engine results at winter Atlas EMS you have the tools to help you do that so again I was here title tags and meta descriptions and kind of go over what those are and how you can use them as well I will also be looking at images and how do we scan a cyst and then yet throughout the course of this webinar, peppering in some past practices and tips and tricks for you as as we go through this exit here and I'll go and hop into the CMS I can take a look at some of the stuff together okay Lucy here I am in the admin side so the first thing I want to look at your our general settings so I want to go here to Hamburger drop-down menu State Management now right here first thing you're you're going to be brought to we have all the stuff on the side here you just your general settings right here is a couple of things I wanted to look at the first thing your homepage title. you want to make this an understandable and unique title in the top bar of your browser Idaho boost your site's ranking in search results we recommend making your title short and easy to understand and to not use the same title for every page on your site I'm usually it's it's going to be a bit so if you leave it blank and we're just going to default to the school's name with a lot of schools will just do that and just leave it as the school's name meta description what is a brief summary of web pages that appear in search engine results so by default every page on your site has the same meta description so I set up when your site is launched up but you can customize scripture for each individual page what do something when they do here in a in a couple minutes but in general we have a couple of extra practices here when coming up with your medicine scriptions here now I'll we always recommend keeping it under a hundred sixty characters short and sweet just like a tweet about you whatever you got the usual staying with that hundred sixty character limit we recommend that for your meta description as well now you want to tell the reader why does she go to your site what makes the school website so special and you have a call to action this is the place to put it so if your you want people to come in and you'll get more information about your site apply now this is where you want to put that information you also want to make the a description here make it relevant to the page instead of insulin generic for your whole site again this right here is going to use for the whole site so any page that you're not going to go in and individually kratom description for this is the one that's going to Auto default for that is more about grabbing the attention of the search engine it was what Google is looking for a medal scription needs to catch the eye of the person doing the searching and as much as Google you know can help get us to the top of those do search rankings here we want to make sure we're still pulling in at people that we're going looking at those results to think of it as hold a summary of the content found on your site or the individual page and a call to actions it should provide an explanation of what the page is about we also want to go ahead and compel the audience to click through and read your content it's totally cool to put the volume at a description directly from some copy on your page has a great description my already exists within your content so if you already have it in there it might just need a little bit of tweaking to call the action or something where is within that 160 character count so here so for Elio College Prep here I'll go ahead and just throw in something here so for over 150 years edlio College Prep has Los Angeles best and brightest to reach their full potential apply today I have that call to action that I want people to know this is a great school we've been around for a long long time coming to take a look at us where we are next up down here when I look at meta keywords now she words to help search engines find your site by indicating the content that's on your page the only Google really knows the weights that keywords key words that have any search results it does seem that they are placing less and less emphasis on keywords but at Today's Breakfast best practices and it's only include a few specific keywords are we want to put too much in there again or what but just a few will do I want to throw a couple in here now so again you know I mean the less and less important in the search results but it doesn't necessarily hurt to have something there but it is something that Google is still pulling weeds don't know the exact weight of it yet all right so we have some information here again any pages that we don't end up we add these of this information to this is this will Auto default for that for every other page I want to come down here to pay that I can also get here I am bored. That many page manager Pages or go ahead and click your pages now I know the page I want to search it departments here to the Elio so what's say we really want to highlight our school newspaper in this scenario will said the school newspaper Ted Leo has a bunch of awards and we want to highlight this and bring more ice Biscayne people potentially staying at this school is winning Awards more and more people want to come to this school so if your school is getting any sort of recognition highlighted definitely definitely highlighted I'm not only does instill a sense of pride in your existing School Community but could also help grow that Community people save this is an award-winning school yeah I want to send my kid there we have our content or hear from placeholder text and then some I'm up here to page options on your actions what's the leave here now when you working on your SEO strategy you want to start thinking specifically about the pay Disney want to increase traffic to you don't need to do this on every single page general settings cover all these Pages again now I which means all that information can be pulled it automatically this is for getting more targeted traffic to specific pages got here is our friend you are out right now if I wanted to send this is the oral kind of long and unwieldy we have a whole bunch of letters and numbers here towards the end people looking at beautiful looking URL out there so let's start with this as often discuss how consequential from URLs with our with SEL Google and other Big Sur cabins again they're not that forthcoming with the weight so I can report and something like this but no matter how much of a difference it makes it does Ulta make a difference but user experience as well so awesome tips and tricks here for coming up with a solid form of URL use lower case letters for all of them use lower case letters most servers won't have any issues at all but it's good to have a uniform look across the board that you want to have a standardized look to you or else I'm enjoying this way again will help linking areas within the site and from outside the site as well I'm do not use a underscores. underscore Tuesday - underscores cannot be seen when the URL is published as a Bear Lake we want to keep it simple you don't want extra words in there or where is it may not be relevant to what you're trying to do to this case work I don't like people to the school newspaper so much with this pencil but I hear someone else to use paper nice and short we don't use the front of you are out anymore we can go over to change to defaults and then go ahead and get that that long unwieldy you're out back there again but right now we'll keep that stuff like that title tags again cheapest if I'm going to sound like a broken record here you want to keep it simple you can use the page title on you do anything too complicated if you're looking to draw and visitors through at a buffet at admissions page but they are meeting our you should definitely want to use action words in there drawn users think of sites that draw you in and the Langs that they used to do that a lot of time especially with a you know you're trying to get somebody you'll have words that can ask questions at what why I how where to get the visitors thing about K like what do I want to come here why do I why don't want to see my student here you know how do they rank amongst other schools like what makes them so special on top of that you want to use is that really still your school thing cuz you know like where the best greatest first you know so I can this case that's all right now we're heading to admissions page I could put like why Pebble Hill College Prep is the best school then it searches result people like that that might draw you in to come look at that. You can do that in the page title tag now down here we're going to look at page meta descriptions next again this were talking about before with those I'm keeping a nice and short to 160 characters is generally what we recommend so again currently is being pulled in from the homepage settings so we already have one this is your chance to going in really personalized this meta descriptions are a brief summary of web pages that appear in search engine results so again recommended tell the reader why they should go to your site if you haven't called action is a great place to put it and you want to make it relevant to the page instead of something generic for your whole site so again this case I really want to highlight why this is at the school newspaper here is so great and why it's selling point for the school so when I got here all right ambulances that was named the national student society's best school newspaper in California find out why today still you have a call to action there I hate your curious what does find out why come on in your inviting people in your call to action I like hey this is what this page is school newspaper and work kind of rank pretty high come on and take a look so next up keywords again one more way for a certain search engines to find your site remember the best free is to include as the couple of Bourne keywords again keep it simple so this case School newspaper and their college prep journalism at The Gazette I'm simple things there I thought it was a lesson was important when it comes to FCO but again it doesn't necessarily true hurt to have them and have them there but Google is looking at these last months but again it is still at least important lasting here additional header tags so this is something specific still there you're more than likely going to want to open a support case to do this but here you want to put in open graphic tags OG tags use for reposting on your page on social media like sites like Facebook Twitter or anything like that open graph tags ensure that your content appears the way you wanted to the title pictures and saw your summary text formatted correctly so let me show you what an example of that with this will look like this is what the actual tag will look like now we have some great articles in our Hope Center that going to bring you to specific information through Facebook Twitter what are Facebook article in the center will bring you to do when you're going in and adding this this OG tag you're what you were at sharing your Facebook Twitter will you just put in like the URL a copy and paste this url url here it's where I want to share it on Facebook and this is ultimately what it will end up looking like right we have the name of the page article have a little summer here and then we have the image here so if we don't have something here so we haven't already created this telling Facebook what we want spelling what image we want to plan what what other information we want it'll automatically guess as to what it is you want to pull in there so you know a lot of times when that pager something there you can go ahead and do this you go ahead and open a support case in our attic 14 will be happy to assist with that but again we have information our help center with links explaining how to use these for Facebook and Twitter I will go check out the help center there in a second all right at last but not least we were bread crumbs up here things don't necessarily affect SEO but it makes for a much better user experience bread crumbs let users know how are that's your specific page here so we come over here down here these are bread crumbs so we see that we are in the academic departments category within that were in the language arts section and within that section we are in lbo Gazette page so if you want to go back and see you no other pages from the section we can click your language arts and see what other pages are in here but right now we just want to stay here on the Elio Gazette page again not as important as though but again makes for a better user experience once once you have those visitors in your age now as we have we've added our friendly URL page title Tag Heuer or page description are keywords and are just not attack XL awesome so now we're back to editing the page we just run brings me to one more thing I wanted to bring up in regards to SEO here of the body of the page is also important to SEO but a lot of people don't realize that the images are important as well every image you upload has the ability to add some else text at what is Altex it's something that we primarily think of in regards to accessibility no visitors to your site with visual impairments may not be able to see your website clearly do you understand the concept thankfully they can use a screen reader to convert that site into audio just allows them to listen to the information on the pages and navigate through your site auditorily this is where all text comes into play cannot read images I'm so let's say you know I have a screen her up I can't see here that this needed it won't automatically set this is a picture of a typewriter everybody text join the staff of the NBA I'm sorry to have some sort of all texts are explaining that as soon as we were there like comes to that part of the page it'll read out your alt text for you there now all that there is no Altex provided for an image the screen order cannot tell the what the image is about so I come up here and click on this image okay this is where we can add the alternate text journalism quote there recommend keeping it short and simple I get it probably doesn't need any more than one sentence I think we could probably do a better job of just journalism call hear someone is thinking about what's right ask yourself why is it being used and what does this message convey it is no need to say I hate this is a photo of this or is an image of that you can just put like what it is but this case I'm actually just going to put the text that I have there journalism is the first draft of history and tribute to Phil Graham at the Washington Post want to go ahead say that snow anytime anybody as well always important alright anytime anybody comes to this page using a screen reader they will the first thing up here they will be red quote instead of just say this an image here so I'm there there I'm in up here at the top you can see we have gazette's right there all right one other thing I just want to cover here while we're still in the CNS only go back to settings real quick so when you go to site management settings okay to before we looked at the general settings on Pio this description meta keywords for all your pages that you're not individually going in and updating these like we just did with Eliana because that page I come down here to se oh and marketing on the stage and that is to use it use it please do that Google analytics check to see where visitors are going what's working what's at work it out where would you like them to visit more I go anywhere this is so incredibly powerful and we make it really really easy to integrate here I'm so again I will actually right here I have a help center article pulled if you need any more information about getting this setup come right here we will assist you with that are they a great article here I'll show you how you can do that but again this is super super powerful and if looking to increase traffic to your site I mean this you're going to get the best information from this from here to definitely use use use Google analytics it is a great great resource all right all right I think that is pretty much going to wrap up everything for us at today
