In this 30-minute webinar, we show off the recent upgrades made to the Pages module, including image wrapping, moving sections, and more.

Good afternoon everyone! Thank you for joining me today for our Edlio pages updates webinar. We'll be going over pages and, of course, our recent upgrades which include image dropping, moving sections, and even embedding videos directly into the text box. I just wanted to let you know that we also have a technical support representative in the chat who can answer any questions that you might have. This video is being recorded, and it will be accessible to everyone in the Help Center. So, let's actually go ahead and get started. So when you're in your Admin site on the landing page, there are two ways that you can actually get to your pages. The first is of course by directly clicking where it says Pages, and that of course bring you to the landing page here. Then, of course, your second option is by going into our dropdown menu, Page Management and clicking directly into Pages. Both of the options, of course, will lead you to the same location. Depending on your privileges what you see may be a little different. I'm going to be covering the admin side, but building pages whether you're a teacher or admin is all done the same way. So, on the admin side we see our category pages here. Think of it as where your main content is housed for the website. Of course you have the option of your personal page where you can create and own an admin page for yourself or a teacher page that you're creating for yourself as well. So let's focus here under category pages. So, keep in mind that everyone has a total of six categories, and of course, the names that you see here may differ from the district that you're looking on or even on your own site. You can edit the names, and what you need to do in order to do that is if you actually click on the category name, when you click on the pencil icon here, you can go ahead and change out the name here. When you actually click out the box it'll go ahead and save the new title for you, and for some of you who are thinking you may not need all of the six categories - you're thinking you don't use athletic teams. Maybe you don't use club and activities. You can actually hide the ones that you don't want to use. In order to do that, click here into Category Options. You'll see that you have the option to show or hide specific categories. Keep in mind that you cannot add anymore categories or delete. A few other options that you have here as well is once you start building all of your pages, you might not remember what section you paste your page in. So, instead of going in and clicking into each category and section, you can click on Search Pages, and you would actually be able to type in here. It'll tell you that it's under miscellaneous and about for example. Now, when you click into a category, you are going to see your sections listed out here. Think of it as they're folders that are holding your pages. You can have an unlimited amount of sections, and when you actually click into a section here - so if I click into About - this is where all of my pages that fall under my About folder exist. Keep in mind as well that with pages, you can, again, create an unlimited amount of pages here. So with sections and pages, you can create as many as you would like. So let's actually click back into our Miscellaneous section here and talk about one of our new updates. So, you can now move entire sections to a new category. The way that you do this is - let's say Miscellaneous right now is under About, but you wanted this under Academic Departments, for example. If you click on the three dots here, you'll see the option of move. That will populate the following box, so you would click on the drop down here and choose where you would like to move it to. Also keep in mind that you still have the option where if we go into the About section, you still have the option to move your pages to a different category and section. That's done the same way. You would click on the three dots next to the page. Click on your Move button. Select your category here, and of course select the section that you would like to move it over to. While we're on the topic of moving pages, keep in mind that when you create your section and add your pages, and you maybe don't like the order that this displays in, keep in mind that you can actually move your pages around within the page. Just go ahead and drag and drop here to change the order, and that'll go ahead and save that for you. So, I am going to click back into the the Miscellaneous section. Let's actually go into creating a section and adding pages so that you can see some of our other updates. So, I'm going to click New Section here. I'm going to call this "Testing", and because we are editing the section, I'm going to click right here in to Add and Edit section. So, now I can actually go ahead and start building out my pages, and the way that I would do that is by clicking New Page. You'll see it'll ask you what type of page you would like to add. You, of course, have your blank page option. You can link to another page, and this can be to an internal or external link. If you also want to build out your section menu with some of the feature pages that we offer, you can, of course, do that as well. So, I'm just going to start with a Blank Page here. So, I'm going to click on "Blank Page", and it will bring you to the following page. The first thing you of course want to do is to go ahead and title your page. So, let's say this was "Intro to Testing". If I click out of the box, my title has now saved here, and you'll see you have a few options. You can have this page be published or unpublished. If you're not ready to post this page to the site yet, and you just want to work on it, you can go ahead and click Unpublished. If you're ready to go. You just want to leave it up. You can leave it as is. Of course, you have your side panel options - so if you wanted a full width page, if you wanted it to be left-aligned for your section menu, or of course right-aligned. So, when we scroll down, you'll see that you have the same three options of what you can actually add to your page. So we have our content. We have our gallery, and you can add as many files. So you can use these options as many times as you would like to to build out your page. So, let's actually start with the content. If you want to add content, all you need to do is click on the Content box, and it will populate the following for you. So, maybe I was going to write here - "Coming soon. Check back for updates." You can see you have some formatting options listed above. You can insert links, so if you wanted, let's say, "Check back" for example to become a link, you would click here. You can enter in the URL. Once you click okay, that'll actually go ahead and link this for you now. For those of you who like to embed on a page, you also have the option by clicking your source code. You would just paste, click okay, and that will go ahead and embed for you. You can, of course, change your font size. Now one of the updates that we can actually offer is if you wanted to embed a video directly onto the page, we have an option here that says Insert/Edit Video. When you click here, if you wanted to embed a video,  if you click on the embed tab, and let's say I wanted to take a video off of YouTube and put it on my page. I'm going to click here into my tab where I have a math video. When I scroll down, what we of course want to do is get the embed code for the video. Where you see the option here that says "Share" - we would click on that here. Under Share a Link, we click embed, and what you want to do is copy this entire code here. Come back to your admin site and paste the code below. Then, if you click okay, that will of course go ahead and place the video for you here. Of course if you wanted to delete this you would just click on the video and press delete. Your other option which is actually a new upgrade, as well, is when we insert an image within the text - so, I would click on the box here. Let's just get an example image. Of course, I'm going to place my alt text here, and alt text is very important for ADA purposes. It's used for those who are actually visually impaired or have traumatic brain injuries. So, if they're using a screen reader, it's going to grab the text off of the images and read back to them what the image is. So, when I click "Okay" here, I'm going to say that this looks a little bit funky, and it's not really wrapping around my text. You now have the option of aligning the image left or aligning the image right. So, after you upload your picture, if you just click on any of these options, it will go ahead and align your image for you. Then, of course, your next option is to add photos to the page. So, we would click on Gallery. These, of course, are your accepted file types, and when you click on Upload, can pull from these four options here. We're going to select from my computer. I'm going to choose a few photos here. Click on open. Once it's done uploading, it's of course going to remind me to place my alt text here. I'm just going to click on the alt, and I'll put something very general. You have to, of course, do this for each photo, and let's do the last one here. So now that I've placed my alt text, you're going to see the option of the display mode. By default, it's set to rotate, so you images would just keep scrolling through. You can also have the images stacked, so if you just want them going down in a straight line, you can, of course, choose that option here. Your last option is adding files to your page. So, we would click on Files, and your accepted file type is any. We actually offer the option of, if you are uploading PDF's, you can directly embed them on the page, and I will definitely show you how to do that right now. Just keep in mind that it's only with the PDF that you can embed on the page. All other files - they have to actually click into it. So, under upload I'm going to choose My Computer again. Let's just get a test document here. After my PDF has completed uploading, you're going to see that there's three dots next to the PDF name. When you click on those three dots, you'll see you can change how it displays on your page. This will not change your file name on your computer - just for the page. Then, under display options, we recommend clicking on the largest size here. So, when I click here, it's going to go ahead and directly embed that PDF on my page for me. Parents, students, or anyone who comes to your website would actually be able to scroll through this PDF and, of course, view it. Another important thing to note is, as your building your page, please make sure to come up here from time to time and click Save because if you don't, and you accidentally close out of your page, any additional content that you added or content that you did not save will be lost. So just make sure that you come up and click Save here. If you wanted to maybe add more content on the page, you could click the Content box, and you could go through each step again depending on how you would like to build out your page. You have the same option here with your section menu. So, maybe you wanted to add just a photo on the side here. You could, of course, go ahead and upload that here and place your alt text, and click save. So, let's say you build out your page, and as you're doing this you realize maybe you want your images to be first and then your text to follow. You don't have to delete and start all over again. You can actually reorder within your page. All you need to do again is just drag and drop with the six dots here. I would just move this right up, and that will go ahead and change the order for me. Another thing I wanted to mention is this public link that you are seeing here. Keep in mind that if you've already launched your sight, you are live. If you click on the public link here, you'll be able to see what your page actually looks like. If you have not launched yet, this link will not work. It'll give you a 404 error, so if you're seeing that, that's why. I'm going to click back into the testing section. Let's actually add another page here so that we can see what a section menu would look like when it builds out. So again, you would go through the same process. Click on Blank Page. Title your page here. Maybe you just wanted to add some content here, and let's click Save. When I click back into my testing section, you can see that I now have two pages. If I click new page, you can, of course, go ahead and click on another Blank Page. We can also do Link to another Page. So, when we click on it here, let's say there was a resources website that you share with your community. You would enter in the title. Type in or paste the link below, and we recommend opening as a new tab so it doesn't take users away from the website. They won't have to click back in. You would select Open as a new tab and click save. You can of course keep going back and building as many pages as you would like. Now what I wanted to cover, of course, is you've filled out your pages and you're actually not seeing it anywhere on the website here. That's because we haven't linked it to our site navigation. So, in order to, of course, see all of these, we need to go ahead and link it to our site navigation. In order to do that, we would go back into our drop down menu. We're going to go under Site Management and Site Navigation. Let's say we wanted to add this under Admissions, for example. We would click on New Item, and I'm going to call this "Testing". Then we're, of course, going to want to link to a section or page because we created this in Pages. So, when we click on Select a Page, another new update that we offer now is, if I search for my page that I created up top, you can actually link to entire sections now. Whereas, before you could only link to pages. So, when I click on testing here and I click done, always make sure to apply your changes. When I go back to the website and I refresh the page - keep in mind it might take a few refreshes - When I go under admissions, I'm going to see to it that testing has now been added. When I click into it, you're going to see that my section menu is building out here. So, if I go back and I add another page, under resources it'll be the next page that I created. So, you can of course scroll through the page here. If I click on Testing, all I have put on that page was "check back for updates". Here is where you will know if it's a link to another page because you'll see a box with an arrow. If I click on this it'll actually open up directly into Google.
