Hi everyone welcome to our webinar today, my name is Sara I'm with the Client Success team here at Edlio and I'm going to be moderating our session today about accessibility and how you can keep your Edlio website accessible to all sorts of users, the features that we already have with Edlio that you can use to keep your website and maintain your accessibility, as well as some other tools that you might consider adding. I am joined by a member of our technical support team, Matt, who will be moderating the chat room today. If you have a question about anything that we're discussing - oh excuse me - let me go back to this slide real quick - If you have a question about anything that we discuss during the session today you can go ahead and ask it in the chat box and he will answer as we're going through; he'll be helping me out by moderating it while I'm talking and if we have some time at the end we'll also leave some time to answer other questions then, so feel free to ask as I'm going through and he'll answer them live and then if we do need more time at the end for questions we'll do that. We can also follow up with you over email if we don't get to it today. So, just make sure that you keep your eyes out for that chat box and feel free to ask away in there. I'm going to go ahead and pause my screen and open up a new screen to start our session today. All right, so everyone should be seeing now my demo website that I'll be using to demonstrate some of our features today. I'm going to start by discussing actually some of the things that your website should show on the public side, so Edlio sets up your website for accessibility success to start with and the reason for that is based in the code that we use, so we design and code your website according to the latest standards for accessibility and that includes things like making sure that the colors are contrasting appropriately. We make sure that the navigation in your menus is accessible by keyboard as well as a 'skip to main' content link. We include access to a link for skipping to main content which helps with keyboard navigation. We also review your page structure in your links to make sure that they're screen reader friendly. So, when you're coming on board with Edlio, and we are working on a new project with us, all of that is taking care of upfront. Let me go ahead and just show you on a webpage kind of what this might look like. So on your Edlio page when you're working with us to onboard your product, your project with us all of these colors are contrasted appropriately from the beginning. The Edlio project management team takes care of that and make sure it's up to standards during the project building phase. We also make sure that these menus which can either be a single column or a different look depending on what you choose in your website design project are accessible for navigation with a keyboard instead of a mouse. Also included, as I said earlier, that 'skip to main content' link is part of the website navigation. And, when you're inside your page structure as you build a website out with us - so this would not - this is an example of an inside page that doesn't actually have a page structure and let me show you a different page. So your page structure and your links we also help you when you're building a new website with us to make sure that the links are screen reader friendly. If you're concerned at all about the current state of your website - if you haven't had a website redesign in a few years, if you're worried that your links might have gotten, you know if, if you've had a website for a few years and you're not sure if it's currently up to standard, feel free at any time to reach out to our technical support team or your Client Success specialist and we'd be happy to review the current state of your website and let you know if it's time for a redesign to get you up to that most current code, if you need to make some adjustments with your team on how you make your links in your pages, feel free at any time to reach out to us and we can help you with that. We also have inside the CMS several tools to help you maintain that accessibility after the original - the official project and initial building of the website has been completed with the project management team. So, since we know that your website with us is a living and breathing tool, there are tools that are baked into the platform that you manage your website with us to help you maintain accessibility on a continuum, because accessibility is something that we kind of view as something that you can continue to strive for. It's something that you're always working on and always keeping up with on your website just as your website is a living and breathing document, too. So I'll go ahead and show some of those those settings. So the first major one is going to be inside Site Management in Settings and it's housed under the helpful title of accessibility. So on your website you have the option to enable a setting which will require alternative text for all images and videos. So what this means and the setting actually has all of this information laid out for any website administrator who needs to make this decision, what this would mean once turned on is that an image does not have alternative text on it, it will not display on your Edlio website. We also have some helpful tips in here for if you do decide to turn this on at a later date - so for example if you don't currently have this enabled we have a template that you can send to your staff to let them know what you need them to do, meaning what they need to caption their photos with. We also have some tips for when to do, this how to implement it with staff, and what will happen after. Once this is turned on and you've clicked 'save,' what will happen with your pages, with your images and inside your pages will look something like this. So let's say that I'd like to add another picture to this page. I'm going to add this one of these graduates. I'm going to get this warning letting me know that I have missing alternative text. If I publish the picture anyway, I'll get another notification, and it will not allow me to publish this. If I open this up you'll notice that this picture still doesn't show. It's going to require me to add this before it displays on the website. I'm gonna go ahead and add that alternative text, publish it again, and then we should see a new picture. Another tool is with the save draft feature. If you'd like to save this page as a draft, you can preview the draft and there is a free web accessibility evaluation tool baked into the draft preview page. So if I select this, it gives me a report on my page draft. This tool would be really helpful if you're building out new pages because this allows you to work on them without publishing them to your community. So I've added my text, and I'm going to go ahead and publish the draft again. If you have Wavee for Google Chrome enabled as a plug-in, you can also run this that way as well. We'll discuss some other tools like this plug-in in just a few moments, but this is where that would come into play. However if you don't have that enabled, you can use the feature inside the draft functionality. this This alternative text setting goes for any photo or image or video that's added to the website, so that would include your photo shuffles - if you have homepage shuffles it would include those. So I'd like to add another picture. I'm going to get that same warning. I'm going to go ahead and give them the alternative text. Once it's added, the warning goes away to let me know that I'm good to go and it'll display the photo. This also goes again for photo albums. I'd like to add a new picture. I'll get that same warning. So that's one setting that you can utilize on your Edlio website to make sure that all of your pictures are accessible to every user that comes across your website. Another cool feature is baked within our video and audio feature. We have closed captioning ability as well as a transcript generator for uploaded videos. So if you upload a video after the video publishes, you can go inside you're Edlio CMS inside the videos, inside the Media, Videos and Audios feature, and edit the captions. It plays along with the video and allows you to skip between sections of a video to edit captions that are auto-generated. When you save them it will override the current captions. You can also regenerate the captions automatically and you can edit the entire transcript of the video as well. There's additionally a setting that you can enable to override the transcript every time the captions change. So if you enable this and you edit the captions, it will automatically update this transcript as well. Once you save that, it will display the video. The accessibility setting for videos would require the closed captions to be added, so if you have that alternative text setting added Site Settings like we looked at earlier - for videos you will have to have closed captions for them to publish. So those are few of the features that we have baked within the CMS as well as coded on your website to make sure that everything is up to standard and allows you to maintain the accessibility needs of your school. We do have a few other tools at your disposal that you can add, either free or at an additional fee, for further if you're needs go beyond what we already have available. So I mentioned that there are some plugins available for browsers such as Wave, SiteImprove like this one, other other screen readers that you can add to your website, add for free to your browser like Google Chrome. And that would enable you to just do a quick check at any time of pages on your websites. This is a free tool it's fairly easy to install, and there are number of them that you can add; like I mentioned Wave, SiteImprove, et cetera. We also have, as part of our content management portfolio options, a partnership with AudioEye. And AudioEye's partnership with us allows us to add this toolbar, the accessibility toolbar, any website. This is an added feature that you need to reach out to us and and work with us to install. So you can contact the technical support team, you can contact your sales representative, or your client success representative to get more information about this. But the AudioEye toolbar allows you to make some more additional controls to your websites. Finally, we do have a couple of other tools at your disposal just to make sure that you're up to date on your accessibility information. We have a series of webinars about this. We also have an entire section on our Help Center about accessibility. So all of this is based, is for your disposal free, for making sure that you are aware of the most current standards, how to use the CMS to your, to your advantage to make sure that these standards are met, and again we also have a series of videos about these as well. This video for example will be uploaded to the CMS - excuse me - will be uploaded to the Help Center for you to watch later if you miss this or you need to distribute this video. You can also contact your tech support team or your Client Success Specialist at any time for help - if you have questions, if you do need to make sure that everything is up to date, if you want to check on how your website is doing, if you want to make sure that the design coding is up-to-date, we can help you with that.
