[Edlio Webinar] Use Your Edlio Site to Highlight the Class of 2021

We show you how to best use your Edlio Website to show off all of the accomplishments of this year’s graduating seniors in this short webinar. We take a look at how this can be accomplished using tools built into your Edlio site including Pages, Homepage Alerts, Photo Shuffles, and more.

Now, time to break out the Pomp and Circumstance or Graduation (Friends Forever) by Vitamin C or Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day or whatever your go-to graduation song is because it is that time of year again where we say goodbye to another graduating class it's a bittersweet time because we're saying goodbye to a group of kids that we've potentially spent the last four years helping to mold and prepare and navigate the real world it's time to highlight the hard work that they've put in over the last four years and let's let our school community know just how much going to miss these kids. That's right we're showing you a few different ways that we can highlight these amazing kiddos on your school website and what makes this even more special today is we pulled all these examples from existing Edilio clients, last year in the midst of the pandemic you know schools are trying to find new different ways to to make the graduation experience special for the other students who are leaving. Unfortunately last year they're there really weren't any in-person graduations you know there was some drive-thru ceremonies a lot of them are on Zoom but you know this year it's a little bit different but we still want to use our Edlio website to highlight just how amazing these kids are and we're going to walk through some examples of how we can do that today We'll be building out some pages together some pages, some pages to highlights individual students almost like a virtual yearbook if you will we're going to show you how to link those to your news feature, and show you some some other updates you can make to your home page that will have a big impact and show these students and your school community just how appreciated these kids are so let's go ahead here in your admin site here I'm going to start by making a little virtual yearbook, I'll show you how you can make a couple of pages of that here, so I'm going to go down to "Pages" so now we're in "Categories" here I'm going to throw this in the "Miscellaneous" category now I'm going to add this to, I'm going to create a new section here apologize I want to call this "2021 Senior Hhighlights", add and edit that section, so we have a brand new blank section here we can add a bunch of new pages we'll add this new page here or we'll make a blank page these are other features here in just a second. Now I the first thing you want to do is give this page a title so we're going to go ahead and just highlight a couple of individual students here, so we'll make the page title the name, "Steve Pessolano" I will go ahead down here, we will add some content we could add some photos and other things here but we'll start with some content. Okay now, you can do this anyway you like here we did see one school here I kind of went through and added some general information about the student here, you know some things like favorite subject, favorite high school memory, their biggest accomplishment while they were in high school and a post-graduation plans, again kind of like a virtual yearbook so I went in here, cleared all the formatting when I pasted this, so we'll go in here, let's see, we'll make these bold Alright, so we have this information about Steve here, I want to go ahead and let's add a picture here too, I'm going to come up here, click the picture icon, upload here, alright, so this picture of Steve and for accessibility reasons we want to add "Alt Text" here so screen readers know what it is we are looking at in this case is a picture of Steve Pessolano are we going to have a little bit big, so we'll go ahead we'll make it a little bit smaller and let's make it an inline image as well, alright was going to bring it down to the size that we want a little bit smaller I'll drag it up here, it is an inline image we going to get in line with the text there coming into the cleaner look you know well when we only look at it here now we can add a few other things here I would add photos like an album, add individual files, supply lists are coming soon, buttons, we're not going to be adding staff here, but let's go ahead and publish this page all right also going to take a look at what this looks like "Public View" that's what we're looking at right now so let me go ahead and add another one see how this section menu along the side will work let me go back here, 2021 Senior Highlights to our section and add another page here for another student blank page all right so then page title, I'm going to make it this students name all right I'm going to go ahead and add content again, have the sample bios ready to go Favorite Subject: Chemistry again highlight these, make it bold Favorite High School Memory: Principal Irving dressing up as the school mascot for our homecoming game Biggest Accomplishments, make that bold, Being elected president of the student government association and Post-Graduation Plans: going into a Pre-Med program at NYU and we'll add another photo here, we'll make it inline, just like before all right and then we'll add our Alt Text here so a screenreader can read that image now don't know what just happened here so we'll go in here and we'll at that again all right, bear with me for just one moment, we're just kind of go through what we just did here making these bold add that image all right add the "Alt Text"there we go, ok looks like it's a little bit big so we're going to want to go ahead and slim this down a little bit we'll make it an inline image here we're going to bring it up here to the right and let's just bring it up here a little bit alright okay let's come back over here to this page made for Steve Pessolano before that when we refresh this we'll see the new page alongside here on the section menu, Steve Pessolano, super that page we just made very cool so let's go ahead we'll come back here and let's add another page here but this time let's do a photo album this time Alright, we'll share some highlights, some photos of some students throughout the year here in let's create an album Seniors 2021 go on ahead and upload some photos here and we have our accepted file types down here don't you this will also go ahead and we'll add the "Alt Text" text for each image again, make sure the screenreaders can go ahead and read what is on these images for anybody using a screen reader must wait for these photos to upload alright there we go okay come back in here to that photo album "Seniors 2021" let's add some "Alt Text" to these so I'll do "classroom setting" here, set that. come in here Alt Text "students hanging around" if you do have your accessibility settings turned on which most of you should you will have to add Alt Text for any of these photos to appear on your sites this one students studying next students at chalkboard so go ahead and save that all right we have all of our photos here let's go again here refresh this and now we should see our photo album so you can come in here Seniors 2021 and look at that our little slideshow here of students we just added here very cool all right so now let's go ahead and see if we can add this the section that we made this 2021 Senior Highlights section here to our home page and the best ways to do that so I'll go over here real quick I was going to show you what the homepage looks like so we have a video up top here, scroll down to the quick links news & announcements, we don't really have anything yet about our Seniors or the Graduation coming up, some recent news events a spotlight message here we'll look at that in a second so we'll come back here into the admin site So first thing I want to do is add the section we just made here as a news item on here to announce news and alerts I will make some "Add News" here so we want to make sure "News & Announcements" is checked off there We'll make this 2021 Senior Highlight check out Edlio College Prep's best & brightest as we send them off into the real world okay we can either go ahead and just build out some content here in this case, since we're linking to a page, we're going to go ahead and "Link to a Page" you can also link to a file, let's say you have a PDF or something, some highlights that you wanted to address we're going to go ahead and link to a file this page that we've already built out we're going to go ahead here and copy that paste that and we can upload a photo here I'll select "From Computer" and we'll come back here Now, I made this photo earlier I'll get into this a little bit more, I'm actually going to use this photo somewhere else and I'll show you where in just a bit make this Alt Text "2021 Seniors" there are and we can post now, post later, and when we want the post to expire, we can set that here as well we'll just go ahead and save this now all right perfect now if we have a Facebook or Twitter connected to our site we cannot share that to Facebook or Twitter right here with social media manager, now with homepage alert this is what I want to show you here we can add a homepage alert for this now let's see so we want this to expire let's say you know we want to highlight these students for the next couple of weeks let's say we have our graduation here on June 4th or something slips going to set that expiration date for that on June 4th that we can keep the same time here I'll go ahead here and post that Right now we have a current homepage alert set up so it's asking me if I want to replace that homepage alert and I do I'm going to select replace all right perfecto, now if we have Broadcasts which is an add-on feature we could send out a voice, text, or email alert to our school community about these highlights here with Broadcast, you have school news app setup you can let everybody know with your app alerts here or if you wanted to go ahead and send out a newsletter about these these page you can do that with email sender just hop over real quick just want to show you what the front page looks like with that homepage pop-up alert refresh a couple times here there we go: "2021 Senior Highlights" let's go ahead and read full story that brings me to our first one here for Steve Pessolano, pretty cool, so I also if we scroll down is there a we have that new story here you can also get to this new story by coming down here they're also get that same page. Pretty cool. Let's see. Let's go ahead and add as a homepage widget let's say we don't want to use the homepage popup alert, that were using that for something else right now let's go ahead and actually add this as a widget here we would do that as a button widget delete this one all right Check out our Graduating Class of 2021 Alright and we'll make sure we copy this URL, save changes, and then we'll come back over here to the homepage and we already have it right there can bring us right to our virtual yearbook here highlighting these students, last thing we could do now again I know this might not be a totally viable option for some of you are pretty big districts, schools, and might be hard to create a virtual page for every single senior, that might be a lot I know if you have any ability to bring teachers in on the fold and help you build these out at something we seen this a lot of smaller schools that are highlighting these individual students here always you know Pages for the class in general you could add photo albums and random photos taken throughout the year We've seen some schools do that. Next up, I want to go ahead and show you here a lot of our sites utilize what is called a spotlight message it's just a spotlight message it's just a good way to kind of get some information out of schools use it for a principal's message, mission of the school, this is Iris down here head and see how we can update that and we'll make this like essentially  highlighting a student of the day every single day we'll come in here and update this page and we'll add a different senior of the day as we're highlighting each of them before graduation We'll go down to "Announce > Spotlight Messages" alright let me add this one right here so we'll go ahead and edit this Today's Senior of the Day now what we could do here is go in and just add the information that we we had before so I'll show you how we can do that like what we have with this information for Steve Pessolano was copied from here okay so we can go in here and just go in and add each individual accomplishment here just like we did it before we can have the photo of Steve we can also come in here to this custom link the actually we'll make this one about Sue Bird I'll copy this here add this and we'll add a photo here remember we want to add our Alt Text and we'll make sure we add Sue Bird's info here alright we have the include read more link which will bring us here and we'll save alright, let's refresh now we have our homepage popup alert and we just need to refresh one more time make sure we get in the most updated Spotlight Message here Today's Senior of the Day: Sue Bird looks like "Read More" will bring us right to her page there This is one way you can use the Spotlight Message again to kind of bring it back to this virtual yearbook. One last thing I wanted to show you here we have a video here as homepage you know a lot of schools will custom make a video showing some video highlights or even just a video of photo album of some kind years highlighting students who are graduating you do have a video on your homepage you can do that here a lot of our home pages include a photo shuffles at the top when I bring you over here real quick to another one of our sites, Rilo High School you can see the unofficial Edlio mascot Rilo the dog right here now this is a photo shuffle a bunch of different pictures here you can shuffle through A lot of schools will make some sort of graphic to highlight their students so let me go in here to the admin site for Rilo High School show you how we can do I need a little something here in canva great great program even if you have no graphic design experience that is okay you can make some really beautiful images with in Canva to add to your home page photo Shuffle here so I'm going to go to Media Shuffles Alright so this is our homepage main Shuffle here going to go up here to upload media Upload from my computer all right so this is the image I made in Canva it's just a little message you know, letting the Class of 2021 we appreciate them, congratulations to them on all of your accomplishments are here save that real quick will come down here to the slide layout and there's the image there we can add some text along the the bottom here I do want to go ahead and add my Alt Text "Congrats to Class of 2021" we'll save that alright if you want to add the caption on the bottom here we can do that other things in here as well for your Photo Shuffle, we can add some a slide Transitions and how to shuffle between images with arrows own here or right now we the dots, we can do numbers slides carousel you also got to play with how the slides navigate back and forth but let's go back in here so we can see the mage from Canva can just one more way we can highlight our our graduating class here you know you have a lot of real estate there at the top. A lot of our sites do for that photo shuffle on again a great way to go ahead and draw the eye. Again, if you want to link this back again to some sort of virtual yearbook I can actually within image that you can link this image how much have you we have this page built out, it's on a different site but just for example of our purposes here I'll go ahead and copy the link here we'll save that and then when people come to Rilo High School I'll refresh one more time, click here and I'll bring you to that virtual yearbook page you've made now let's see I believe that is just about everything we have for you today.
