Pages 101 Overview [Edlio Webinar]

hello and welcome to our Pages 101 webinar will be covering everything you need to know to get started with our Pages module. Today's webinar is for True beginners will be posted webinars with some more advanced Centrex for page Management in the very near future Harbour today and teachers can create an update Pages best practices for sharing content and everything else you need to know to use pages to effectively reach you in Thai are school or District Community all right let's get started. I'm logged in as a website and administrator here at are two ways to get to the pages module we can either go up here the hamburger drop that you page management and then Pages or click whatever you pages now up top we're going to see two options here category pages and personal Pages have category Pages these are going to be all the pages within the School site what are your building out things react apartments on the activities things like that they're all going to live with in your category Pages your personal Pages those are any Pages I'm specific to the user that is currently logged in also thinks teacher page things like that. Since we're going to be building out a school newspaper page today I'm going to go ahead and build this page here in our category Pages now if you want to use all six categories he definitely can it definitely helps with organization if you only need a few when we can always go on here to category options you can hide any of the categories that you don't want to use now or within these categories are going to be sectioned we like to think of the or Sensational structure of the pages module like this thing of the actual Peter's module as a filing cabinet now with in a filing cabinet for so you can have the drawers now the category is your are the George when I open that drawer with it add drawer we have our sections or the folders within the filing cabinet and I'm going to click into one of the sections here again like opening the folder that was in the filing cabinet and then we're sitting here we have the actual Pages or the pieces of paper that live with inside the folder that live inside the drawer that live inside of the filing cabinet so that is how our Pages module setup for organ structure all right I'm here in the clubs and activities category because I want to build out a new section for our school newspaper The edlio Gazette so when I go up here to New section alright add and edit that section to now I'm going to create a new page no hear I have a few different options here I can go ahead and make a blank page from scratch and start adding content to it again go to another page so any site at any page I'm outside of this one I can go ahead and enter the URL there and Link that page I can create a form within the ugliest EMS here that be good let's see if I want to set up a form of defy interested writers people that might want to write for The edlio Gazette I can set up a form for that I am videos photo albums things like that calendar and different links that you think might be helpful to another page or whatever you want for that section I just get them I have links to things on student journalism things like that but today I am going to start with a blank page all right now starting from the top here I'm actually in the top right or lay out a few different options here. do you have a few different things you can do to your where the main content on your site is going to be here and over to the right you know this little side column with your section menu in a section when he was going to be populated with any page that you've added to that says so we just build out this edlio Gazette section together if I want to add any other page that section it's automatically going to show up here in the section menu on the right we'll take a look at that in just a little bit if I don't want any  menu I just want this page going to be a standalone on its own I can select this middle one here there won't be anything else I can have the side column / text menu on the other left here I can also have here same as above with this section many on the left or right or not at all but with a hero image the top and we are seeing a lot more schools use this gives a page of real-time a mcfeely and I had a big full with image of the top before you get to the content on the page I'm going to build mine out today because I love the look of it so much I want to pick this one here all right now the first thing I want to do is go ahead and add that for with image that hero image as we like to call it so I'm going to click add and here I got a few different thing I can have that phone with image I can actually add under Section you up here or I can add little buttons to link out to other pages but right now I'm going to go ahead and add a photo upload from my computer okay all right now the next thing is going to ask me for here is the alt text all text is important for website accessibility and if you have your accessibility settings turned on you're going to have to add alt text anytime you add an image what it does is it gives screen reader is anybody using a screen or a description of whatever the images on this case it's a banner at the for the Elio cars at all right I want to click over here real quick to see you have a few different options for how you want the layout of the photos to be what he want to constrain which means it'll kind of stay in line with the content or you want to fool with I'm going to fool with your as it should because I think again we're going for that Dynamic look here I want to really kind of catch the eyes when you're with that fool with all right look at that awesome I want to come down here when I give our page a title in which part was that real quick snow he's gone preview what does page looks like so we go up here to the top of the page select actions would have public view all right in here we go we have that big Dynamic image I was talking about we come down here have our page title we're going to do right now so far I think this page is looking pretty good I forgot to mention before 2 I did immature you know what is out with a photo tool if you have the ability to do that and I definitely recommend it we see a lot of school kind of bringing students here who might be more artistically inclined to do stuff like this in a build out a graphic for you Bob's things like that but again it's a great way to Connor's dad's a little bit more flare to the page that says it's a good look they're all right so want to come down here or so next time you want to do is add content to the page I want to go down here to add we have a few different options now we're going to start here with content I just want to throw in some some written content here for anyone visiting the page but we also have a few other options here to we can throw in the photos I filed a PDF file all throwing up BF here in just a minute you can see what that looks like so people can come in here actually will use that to highlight the school newspaper itself how you can add a supply list for my new supply list feature you can add buttons to link out to other pages I just kind of a cool little floating little button there it was just kind of a break up the page a little bit so it looks really good and if you want to build out like a custom staff directory or things like that you can add staff walk here or staff search what should go ahead and will add some staffing get a little bit from the school newspaper so you can see what it looks like here how about right now we're going to start with this content the first thing I'm going to adhere is just a little about us a little welcome introduction who we are as The edlio Gazette all right I can play up here with all these tools you know if you want to adjust the text here anyway we can bold it's aligned left right however you want you have all these tools text editor up here they can play around with as you're trying to perfect the look of your site I want to do that and I'm going to add some text here placeholder text just for this demonstration all right we'll publish that all right I'll go back and will refresh this page we'll see what it looks like here looking good so far let's go back in with that some more content all right next up actually want to go ahead and add a copy of our newspaper The edlio Gazette we can see what it looks like I won't be doing that with a PDF we're here to files or I can upload my file from my computer I'm going to upload this issue of The edlio Gazette all right great now I'm going to click over here on these three dots for someone who is rename it I want to give this just a better name here just last this week to it looks like all right we've renamed it the next time I want to make sure people can actually see with a PDF looks like so we we have here we can go under display options going to pick this biggest one here so they want people to be able to read it all right we'll publish that come back over here again to the public facing site so you can preview what it looks like it's open the top here coming down good that we have our school newspaper posted as a PDF looking pretty good awesome all right and I people can always go on here click on that entitle there and I'll be able to go straight to the PDF itself so the be able to see a preview it here so it looks like I think also click in there and take a look at the full PDF if they want as well all right now we're back over here on the admin site looked at a photo this time so go to photos all right we'll upload before we have a few different options you can upload directly from your computer could also upload from Dropbox Google drive or Microsoft OneDrive if you want to go ahead and pull in any photos of files things like that from no services but today I'm going to go ahead and get this for my computer artificially add that all text all right and we can publish that no let's go ahead we can actually drag this up here let's do that to drag up some of the photo here. Should we can even make it the top thing that we see so publish that or refresh this page and now are images at the top we have a little about us we have the actual issue of the other Gazette here coming together pretty good so far if I do say so myself all right next up I really want to add a video to this page I want to show you how you can embed a video here using context in the content block so we go hear what had more content I want to do is grab the mbed code for a video on student journalism I'm here on YouTube when I go over to share embed I want to go ahead and just grab this one copy this I am going to come back over here now in order to embed this video here on the page I'm going to go ahead here and click these buttons up here the source code I'm going to paste that embed code that I just copied from you you can also upload videos to your earliest EMS and grab the embed code from there all right to publish that then we'll come back over to our pay or fresh and then we have that video pretty awesome Star page is really starting to come together now it's going to add a couple more things before we wrap up here we can go ahead and add this to our site navigation now before I was telling you about the section menu over here to the right now if you add any other pages to your sections on this case remember made it a section called The edlio Gazette Ware this page the Elio Gazette is also living if I add any other page here right now I'm so let's go ahead so we can see what I look like with the  many there's no makeup blank pages will be a real quick test page here what is call this archives like we're building a a page just for all the archives previous issues of The edlio Gazette I'm going to publish that okay that we come back over here to our page and I refresh this she over here on the right here we have our section menu and now we have that archives page that I just made the no contact me at there cuz we haven't added anything but that is how that section menu works I'm going to come back over here to the admin site I can find some other things over alongside the the section many actual go back over to the page to do that that we were working on previously the edlio cazzette all right awesome okay so we'll go over here to add more stuff here quick add so again I can add some more content over here photos things like that I'm going to go ahead and add staff here so you see that wood that looks like sandusky's I want to add the editor and chief of the Aaliyah Gazette V the staff supervisor if you will so go ahead and that they're so all of that information is coming from your user management right where your staff is uploaded to your site so anybody zaditor user management can be added here using that staff blocks feature so right now we have a Daniel Benson here with his information so if we publish this will go back over to our page and refresh there we have that staff block I click into that and I'll bring you right to Daniel Benson's teacher page here cuz pretty cool and from there you can go ahead and we are back here on our admin sites it was glad we had one last thing handled it and add a button so we can see what that looks like here I saved you want to do is give it a label all right and then make sure you have the URL that you want to use all right we'll publish that all right now the color of the button here and this is pulled in from your sights design here so we going here precious little Cog but in here and you can choose a few different options here of how you want the button to look they actually like this one the best and I'm going to stick with that one will publish that again right now let's go over it will take a look at our final page here everything that we've added what kind of go from top bottom seeing everything that we added to that page today alright so again our starting up here we have this hero image here against a real Dynamic way to bring in the audience attention there to the page that they're looking at will scroll down here we added an image here it's kind of highlight that this case that needs some staff Writers come on why don't you join us here down here we have a little about us section using the content blocks then down here we added a PDF beautiful feature were able to go ahead and freeze display that newspaper carrier as a PDF so people can read it directly within the page they can also go ahead and click here and we brought right to the PDF itself all right we come down here I showed you how to embed a video right within your page so users don't have to go out to a different page to watch a video they can watch it directly on the page here keeping all the traffic still within your sight will come up here and I we have our section many remember I build out that page hear any page is going to be added to that section in this case the edlio does that section is going to show up here in your section money so if we had any additional Pages here they're going to be sit right here I went ahead and added a staff block here and then also we went ahead and added this button here and again I'm near the staff locks buttons they can be added here they can also be added anywhere on the page you're as well really up to you I just decided to add them here over to the right here with the section menu all right and now that we have our page built out the way we like it let's go ahead and add it to the site navigation of our site all right back over here all right back over here on the admin side we're going to come up here hamburger drop-down menu site management site navigation all right and I were to adhere to the site navigation will go ahead will add it under activities someone to click a new item I can select the page here I was going to show you all of your categories in your section your page is here somewhere to go down to the category that we put that Aaliyah Gazette section in which is right here I get a click this button right here on ad that section right there or I can pick the specific page. add which is this one the at Leo Gazette all right will click save all right now I am on our schools homepage or come up here to the site navigation we put it under activities and is the Elio Gazette will go ahead and click on that all right and there it is for the whole world to see there is the page that we build out accessible for anybody to come and check out our hard work I think that is just about going to wrap things up for today again this was a beginner's crash course in two pages if you never build out a page before this is kind of the starting point for you here now in the coming weeks we're going to be doing some Advance Auto tips and tricks webinar on best practices for using
