all right folks I it is time to get started I think you so much for joining us today for this might at Leo webinar I my name is Danny I'm a member of the client success team here at at Leo very excited to be here with you all today very special webinar at the beginner's guide to news and alerts just some quick housekeeping up Frontier offer since first if you do have any questions throughout the course of today's webinar please free to go ahead and throw them in the queue in a feature here as as I'm working through everything as Morgan to the admin side building on some news together here I'll be at checking in on that Q&A panel so there's anything I can live demo for you there I'll go ahead and do that if not we're going to have some time at the end here so I can go through any questions in there that I wasn't able to address during the webinar let's see let's see if you can't stay today no worries this webinar is being recorded and will be added to our help center within 24 recording spot on the topic at hand today and that is again the beginner's guide to news and alerts not today is a webinar is for absolute beginners what are we covering the basics of news and alerts are two of their and the best ways that you can use it for your school at first off what is it at Leah's news and alerts feature is the best way to share your exciting news and announcements with yours Community plus we make it super easy to post those stories to your school's social media so everyone can stay in the loop I want to jump a year into the CMA Fest in just a moment that we could see how we can build out a new the reason all the way we can all the different ways we can push it out to our school community so come over here I am in the car admin site here if you are looking in your seeing something similar to what didn't care but it's good news that means you are a web admin and I bring that up because only web admins will have access to all of the features with a news and alerts regular users of the site here can be given what's the specific news categories if needed approaching today's webinar from the perspective of a webadmin rise of Fear I am in our admin side dashboard what I wanted to hear it real quick before we exercise our building out our news is checking out our home page and seeing where this news is posted to alright dude always go up here and your admin sites right there where it says homepage give that a click brings you write to your site's homepage I want to scroll down here your site design you know odds are a little bit different than this but most of our homepage designs unless otherwise I requested by the client I will have a news and announcements a portion of your sight like this all right work can we see that mayor I'm not all of my pictures you know some will be screwing someone not but at least some real estate with on your homepage there should have all your news and announcements all right how about some news together and we'll come back here and look at what it looks like once it's posted so come back here to the admin site the how to get the how do I get to news and alerts feature here a few different ways from the admin dashboard here easiest way right here click on news alert it's one of our most popular features so we figured why not put it front and center here for y'all to go ahead and easily access their you don't forget their by selecting an oz down here l.a. news alerts it also get there from the hamburger drop-down menu announced using alerts okay quick tour of this page before we go in and start building out some news together first thing here I want to bring your attention is is category now you're able to I create different categories for all the different kinds of news you want to post something that needs to go on you know your homepage here you know it'll default to new is an announcement on that all right that's going to be what is showing up on your homepage okay but if there's anything else like let's say we have a lot of schools that like to utilize the news category further Athletics news right talk about what map of the football team all the games they won as a lot of schools will create a new category specifically for the Athletics program some schools will have a dedicated principles corner right maybe like a weekly address from the principal or superintendent or something York's of space for them to go ahead and post in there I will still request a lot for like a Blog space within the edlio site here and different news categories is the best way to go about that go ahead and create new categories within your settings go to settings and news how you can create new categories there I don't believe we'll have time to actually get into the how we can do that today but just wanted to kind of go over there different news categories we have for you there working our way down here you're going to see here we have all our different to a previously published news that you'll see here we do have this homepage button right here in green eyes I'm sure you can guess that's going to that this means that this is published on the homepage you see here we have one two three four five items you posted on our news so if you come up here too and also let you know how many articles are going to display on your homepage we can change the order of these by clicking these dots on the side here drag them down if we want to go ahead and maybe bring something up that's not currently on the home page and make sure it's on the homepage we can drag that up here as long as the first five we got it to your homepage right again the amount of Articles displayed on your homepage bull show right up here okay now let's go in and start building out some news when you click add news here in the top right corner all right now it's going to order tfault hear the news and announcements since we had that news and announcements category selected if you want to add any additional categories will you do that right here you can post in multiple categories at the same time the news regarding posting say it isn't related to our athletic programs will go ahead and check that but if you want to go ahead and post you know you're new so let's just say you know that's a story about you have the football team make it to the state championships did he can go ahead I think you be ready post news announcements and you know if you have an Athletics categories like that would be good to all right next up we want to add a headline a headliner at so today it is spooky season in the middle of October here Wallace is being recorded so go ahead and announce a Halloween spooky time dance coming up at our school here so we have our headline announcing the first-ever how long is hooli time dance next up we want to go ahead create a short summary he write with both site design the text that we put in here is going to appear under the headline on the homepage I so come back over here we can see here we have our headline a little summary beneath their okay turn back over here next up we have our headline with a short summary now we want to go ahead and start adding our concept is a few different things we can do with this all right now I'll come back here to this content box here in a second cuz this is what we're going to use did you some other stuff that we can do let's say for this a link to a file let's say in this case for this this dance you know we had a PDF that we created for it we can go ahead and add that here if there was some sort of permission slip you know that we wanted to add a PDF that's how we can go ahead and upload that they are that be a good place to add that if we're not going to utilize in this content box I want to we can also link to an external page you know I'd say we're supposed they were to summon a new store that was reading the newspaper. our scores maybe we can link to that story here I should always linked to an external page here if you like let's say you know you will you want to draw people to a specific page on your ad Leo site you can go ahead filled out that page like you know what did Paige management publisher grab the URL and go and pay set in here so the new story when people go and click into the story about bring them to that you are out that page of your up picking you are out for right now this case we're going to add some straight-up content here. We already have our story written out so for this to go ahead here paste here to that's alright I was all ready to go we have our standard text editor up here if you use a text editor before I should be pretty intuitive to as any changes you want to make to it you can go ahead and do that up here to this peaceful ad you're the sweetest and out a little bit against some information here about our dance coming up as well again state or text editor if you want to add any photos or videos here to this content box you can do that over here what's going on down here we can denote whether or not this news is from an outside Source again it is more like if you're linking to you know an external site or something if you more well there we want to add a video to this new story we can do that as well like I said before we can add it to the content box here we can also go ahead I'll show you here for select video can I ask you is all the videos currently added to our media within the site right so I wouldn't your admin site you have the option to select media and go to videos and audio from there you can upload videos you can embed videos from YouTube or Vimeo it's your own collection of videos YouTube all the current videos added to this odd this admin site right now then this case were going to add the Monster Mash music video that we added today just a little fun to have with our Halloween dance we scrolling down here we can choose where we want to display this video above or below our content right we want our content are the source of our news all of that to be front-and-center Soul closest below the content is this is just a little fun add-on where at in with the story here out of you get off if you want if you do if you have a video ready to go and you want that to be front-and-center go ahead and select above content there we'll keep it below or contact for now coming on down here attacking files or photos now I'm going to go ahead here and upload a featured photo you go ahead and upload it locally or you can upload it from one of our cloud services that we work with a Dropbox Google Drive Microsoft OneDrive on this case we have a little Halloween party graphic already created then when I do this you're going to see we have this Orange Box right on the immature missing all text you need to go ahead and add I'll text again this is for anybody who is visually impaired using a screen reader we need to include a description of what the images so when the person using the screen reader on the speaker is actually going through and skinny or not everything on the page we come to this image and I'll let the person know hey this is an image of this case this is a Halloween a party Banner all right we have that ready to go screwing on down here we can schedule this story to go out at a certain times will take tickets for this in a Halloween dance don't go on until tomorrow I can schedule the story to go out tomorrow if I want to go ahead and choose when we want to hide the story from the homepage this place what's that you know how the dance is next week and I don't want the story on there after the dance is done I can go ahead and choose to hide this the day after the dance here if we want some kids will do that all right so go ahead and we'll save this and now our story has been posted I'm going to click in here it automatically comes up with a link you're free to go ahead and see what the new story looks like so I'll do that you can see here this was going to be like when somebody clicks we're going to look at what it looks like on the homepage here in a second just wanted to give you a visual here but it actually looks like we have our headline we have our short summary and we have the content down here the video at the bottom and we have our featured photo as well okay now let's come back over and we will check out the homepage real quick so I can see it looks like we'll go down to our news I never got we could see our sorry posted right there with the image I forgot to mention before when I added this photo for the Halloween dance here is I always recommended best practice adding a photo with your story even you know this case this is just a quick graphic you know if you know that we made on canva you know this tons of tools out there I just been having some image graphic photo something ready to go with your story you can post a story without photo only thing is I you know if your home page design includes photos with these new stories here and you don't include a photo in the new story is going to Auto default to usually your School logo on it I just not show any photo at all depending on your site design every side is prince in continuity and you know why don't you invite people in I think it's a good idea to always have a photo alongside at your story there so I definitely recommend adding a photo whenever you can this is what it looks like on the homepage right now we've done it that we have a published our first story I was awesome but what do we do now right there's a lot more we can do with the story now that it has been published are you going to see down here we have a few different ways we can announce this news alright where to start with a homepage alert all right what homepage alert is when somebody comes to our homepage they are going notified of the story and they're going to have to engage with the store in some way it's going to be a big pop up box Cut kind of like what we're looking at right now and I'm sure the headline the image there and I will have to either click out of its they don't show again or full story to you know I actually access the site beyond the new store yourself will do this right now we can see what it looks like when we create a homepage alert choose whether or not we want to display that feature photo and leave it as is display a call to act but in this case can be read. Rewrite on this case we want them to read the full story so we'll sleep that is down here we have our button Styles alright at least come directly from your site design all right so we're not able to cities beyond what you see here so this is just a thought this specific sites designed we have this dark blue and I just lighter blue here ever it's going to be your school colors but it comes from your sights design so whatever colors you see are those are the options you have to work with this case will go here with this rounded edges it's lighter blue and we can choose when we want to remove this homepage alert it's gonna Auto default to 24 hours from now and whatever time you get you. story you know you select a homepage other bunch of defaults to 24 hours from that I'm so in this case in this case it's actually do because I already chose to remove the story before but if you don't choose to unplug Aditi Falls to 24 hours so we'll go ahead here will create alert now Pakistani sorry folks will go ahead and remove the homepage alert day before all right let's go back to our home page here and that is what it looks like our homepage alert if we have our image the story the short summary quick and beautiful story is actually interact with the website I neither click X3. Or don't show again again now I just so we can come here without seeing them alert every time but I'll click that there and I can go interact with the site all right awesome so we just created a homepage alert next up I want to push this out to our social media channels alright the best way to do that is with broadcasts all right so I want to select broadcast here now the default the standard features of broadcast are going to include your social media channels right we do offer some premium features with broadcast including the ability to send out emails text messages voice calls things like that you can also push out this new story with but in this case we're just you. in the basic version here so we can push out to Twitter or ex Facebook and Instagram all right so you can go ahead and if you haven't already you can integrate your social media by going to all your setting your site management settings and social media you'll find more information there and had to go ahead and I integrate your social media but so we have those three select right now cuz I want to push it out to all three social media channels here all right I will come through here going to go ahead if we want to use any translation we can do that with us and make sure we have our default language whatever language we wrote the story and we're going to use here for this what language does where we can add that translation all right so this case here we have our a story with a link to the story so again we're bringing that traffic we're supposed to get some social media for bringing that traffic back to are School site here alright mosquitoes go down over using that photo as well but we can add other photos if we want has continued I can just kind of confirming here or May 7th Twitter Facebook and Instagram Instagram I can we can send now or send later we'll go ahead and send now all right all right here by your question right here yeah we have time at the end will go ahead and go over how we can start adding other categories to your right, keep your question posted right here I'm so we can cover that at the end cuz looking like we'll have time to do it so I'll go ahead and cover it at the end of the year webinar here alright we have sent that out let's go back and look at our news again cuz I want to show you another way we can get there so going to announce news and alerts now getting Rembert we pose the story and that's where gave us all those other options to announce that news write the homepage alerts the broadcast and then newsletters another way we can get there by clicking on these three dots right here all right click on those three. You'll see we have a few different options are at we can edit the story just go in and change the details of the story let's say you know I had a typo in this scene a Halloween dance so I can go in and edit there an ounce was like an ounce that's what's going to bring us back to what we just saw where we can push out the store through broadcast the homepage alerts newsletter since like that public view this is going to again give us a public view of the story hear what it looks like when folks actually go in and click on the store here freak outside a little slow today. That's the public view they're going back to the admin site if we want to we can unpublish the other store is going to hide the story and you can access any unpublished news right up here under View unpublished news all right you know we're going to be next year we're going to have our second annual Halloween spooky time dance I can go ahead find this old pose copy and here I just update any details I need to I just realized the same information that I have there and if we just want to delete any storage permanently remove it we can do so care okay now again I want to go back to your to an ounce weed covered homepage alerts we covered how to push out a story to social media channels and broadcast now I want to cover how we can push it out in newsletters so click on that you also go ahead and access your newsletters by going to the hamburger drop-down menu announced and newsletters there but that's just the way we can automatically go in and it's going to include that story that we just added there at the Halloween dance story what's going on we can add some other news here as well was a sad sort of our most recent news is all right and then up here we can add some more content as well by clicking into these boxes I'll just give you an ID yeah of what it looks a whole lot at make sure it's filled out for you here copy the Halloween store and just put it in here just so you can kind of see what it looks like once we have it all filled out where he's at as placeholder text for now again these content box you can go in here making you update Center text editor and preview the newsletter all right do you have your School logo up your your District logo then you know where is placeholder scary I news announcements that we just added and the other placeholder text we just added as well this is what it looks like right here we're looking at the preview want somebody has received yet on their desktop or we can go over here and also see why look like on a mobile device as well then return to message I switched preview our newsletter if you want to there's other layouts as well we have new options that include I'm adding the news that you've added in news and alerts here already so this one and there's another one we can add both calendar events and news but again that's a whole separate webinar we do we do have a webinar where we cover the newsletter in Dap in this case were just looking at how we can look at it we can push it out from the announce feature within news alerts so select continue I want to choose who we can be sending this from again this is something I can be set up in your settings ahead of time I'm going to send it out for me here I going to choose your recipients if you have any contact list set up you can go ahead and add those here if you don't have any contact with set up yet you can go ahead and upload here from a CSV will have the template here for you is download that at a low specific feels that you need to add there and upload it will get it sent out here to all the people you need to on this case we have our October subject can be October newsletter September 2023 new slide are okay down here with the option to allow newsletter to be viewed publicly on our website and what that does is I just it's a URL that people can click on it essentially it's just been reading the newsletter there that they're going to get an email just being able to read it in a tab within your sight will go ahead and just like that as well I said now or send later but it's guess we'll just go ahead and send now all right look at that our newsletter was sent here to we sent it here October 12th 10:54 Pacific time here but yeah we went ahead and sent that out right now those are the things I wanted to cover within the news and alerts feature I'll we do have a more advanced news and alerts webinar will be doing in the next couple of months we kind of go I'm some more specifics within its and you know some other best practices as well but I did want to get to the question we had here from Claire about creating categories how we can look at how we can create categories for our news here. I want to create new categories go to Hamburger drop-down menu go to site Management in settings we'll come on down here to news is where you can go in and see the different news categories you have here all right I'll get you a couple other things I do want to draw your attention to so I'll see here as you can see at the bottom of our story here let us know what date was published and it gives us the option to share like social media here if we were back in our settings here we can choose if we don't want to show of the entry date when it was published we can hide that here just by saying no and then we can also go ahead and hide whether or not we want the ability to share these via social media.
